When we can see well, we do not think about our eyes often: It is only when we cannot see perfectly that we come to see how important our eyes are. People who are nearsighted(近视的) can only see things that are very close to their eyes. Many people who do a lot of close work, such as writing and reading, become nearsighted. Then they have to wear glasses in order to see distant things clearly. People who are farsighted face just the opposite problem. They can see things that are far away, but they have difficulty reading a book if they don"t hold it at arm"s length. If they want to do much reading, they must get glasses too. Other people do not see clearly because their eyes are not exactly the right shape. This, too, can be corrected by glasses. Some people"s eyes become cloudy because of cataracts (白内障). Long ago these people often became blind. Now, however, it is possible to operate on the cataracts and remove them. When night falls, colors become fainter(更模糊) to the eyes and finally disappear. After your eyes have grown used to the dark, you can see better if you use the side of your eyes rather than the centers. Sometimes, after dark, you see a small thing to one side of you. It seems to disappear if you turn your head in its direction. This is because when you turn your head, you are looking at the thing too directly. Men on guard duty sometimes think they see something moving to one side of them. When they turn to look straight at it, they cannot see it anymore, and they believe they were mistaken. However, this mistake happens because the center of the eye, which is very sensitive (敏感的) in daylight, is not as sensitive as the sides of the eye after dark, 小题1:According to the passage, a _______ is more likely to be nearsighted.A.guard | B.doctor | C.writer | D.painter | 小题2:People who are farsighted _______.A.cannot do a lot of close work without glasses | B.can only see things that are very close to their eyes | C.have the same problem as the nearsighted people | D.have difficulty reading a book if they hold it at arm"s length | 小题3:To see a small thing at night, we need to look _______.A.with wide open eyes | B.with half shut eyes | C.straight at it | D.in a slightly different direction |

Many people who do a lot of close work, such as writing and reading, become nearsighted. If they want to do much reading, they must get glasses too. 故选A。 根据最后一段的after dark, you see a small thing to one side of you. It seems to disappear if you turn your head in its direction. It seems to disappear if you turn your head in its direction. |

My mind seems always to return to the day when I met Carl. The city bus stopped at a corner to the passengers(乘客).1 was included. After getting on the bus, I looked for a place to sit. At last, I found a seat near the back. The passenger of the next to the one I was going for was an old man in a grey suit. Seated myself, I began to read the book I had been carrying which was Jack Kerouac"s On the Road. The man in the seat next to me introduced himself by asking if I any other book like the one I was holding. When I told him I had, he seemed to become and so did I. He said he was Carl. And asked if I like jazz(爵士乐),and l told him that I didn"t really listen to it and that I like rock and roll. Waiting for Carl to tell me that I listen to real music, I was shocked when he just smiled and nodded. He said, "You me of myself when I was your age. I remember how my parents hated jazz, how they couldn"t see how I could listen to that terrible noise. I bet your parents say the same thing, don"t they?" Now it was my to smile and nod. As the bus took us from one side of the city to the" other, Carl and I talked about a lot of different things. The more we talked, the more amazed I became at the two of us really had in common, although we had the difference. I haven"t seen him we parted, but the thought of our relationship that day never leaves my mind.

Clothes are very important in our life. Different people wear different clothes. Now let’s listen to some people in France talking about clothes. Hello, I’m Betty. I started working this year, so I’m able to get new clothes more often than before. I think what I look like is really important to me, so I spent much money on clothes. I like to wear bright colors and always dress up when I go to parties. I often buy all kinds of clothes and try to follow the latest fashion. Hi, I’m Jack. I don’t have much to say about clothes. They aren’t the thing I’m interested in. I know little about the way of dressing. In summer, I always wear a T-shirt or something else. My name is Alice. I would like to say that clothes must be comfortable and feel easy to put on. Sometimes I buy clothes in some small street markets — they are cheap there. I change the look of my clothes quite often — put some flowers on them or use different buttons, just for a change. They’ll look good all the time. I go shopping for clothes about once a month. I see something comfortable and fashionable and it fits me well, I would go for it and then… 小题1:How many people are talking about clothes?A.Three. | B.Five. | C.Four. | D.Two. 2:What does the underlined word in the sentence “ They aren’t the thing I’m interested in.” refer to (指的是)?A.Summers | B.Shopping | C.Colors | D.Clothes | 小题3:Which is TRUE from the passage?A.Betty only buys clothes in bright colors. | B.Alice likes comfortable clothes and changes her clothes often. | C.The boy, Jack shows the most interest in clothes. | D.Jack knows a lot about fashion and he always wears different clothes. |

It seems that women and beauty go together. I think so. Look around yourself. Fashion ads are almost everywhere. Whether they have realized or not, a sea of. fashion is all around women. They are made to think that without beautiful clothes they will look old and lose their charm(魅力). So who doesn’t want to dress up to be beautiful and young? But I don’t agree with the opinion that women have to show their beauty through their looks. Their mind can be more beautiful and attractive than their looks. A woman has experienced many troubles and may be called “aunt”, but she can still be beautiful if she has excellent qualities like knowledge, a kind heart and great courage(勇气). What’s more, old and young, beautiful and ugly are relative. People who keep a young mind will never feel old. Knowing about new things and wanting to learn more, they can keep up with fashion. Simply dressed women are also beautiful in their own way. Reading and learning is the best way to keep one young. Good books can feed the flower of one’s heart and looks. 小题1:Why does the writer say that women and beauty go together ?A.Because women are sure to be beauties. | B.Because women like to show their beautiful clothes. | C.Because women try to keep their beauty by dressing up. | D.Because women like to watch fashion ads. 2:According to the writer, in order to stay beautiful, women should A.follow fashion | B.do more exercise | C.keep their mind young | D.buy more clothes | 小题3:What does the underlined word “relative” most probably mean in Chinese? 小题4:Which of the following is the best title for this passage?A.Women and Fashion | B.Beauty and Ugly | C.Women and Beauty | D.How to Keep Young |
