阅读理解。     When something goes wrong, it can be very satisfying to say, "Well, it"s so-and-so"s fault. "or "I know I"m late, but it"s not my fault; the car broke down. " It is probably not your fault, but once you form the
habit of blaming somebody or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. You have no power
and could do nothing that helps change the situation. However, you can have great power over what
happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to remedy the
situation. This is the winner"s key to success.
Winners are great at overcoming problems. For example, if you were late because your car broke
down, maybe you need to have your car examined more regularly. Or, you might start to carry along
with you the useful phone numbers, so you could call for help when in need. For another example, if your
colleague causes you problems on the job for lack of responsibility or ability, find ways of dealing with
his irresponsibility or inability rather than simply blame the person. Ask to work with a different person,
or don"t rely on this person. You should accept that the person is not reliable and find creative ways to
work successfully regardless of how your colleague fails to do his job well.
This is what being a winner is all about - creatively using your skills and talents so that you are
successful no matter what happens. Winners don"t have fewer problems in their lives; they have just as
many difficult situation to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as
challenges and opportunities to develop their own talents. So, stop focusing on "whose fault it is. " Once
you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stones for success.1. According to the passage, winners     .A. deal with problems rather than blame others

Americans experience this royal treatment every day. How? By being customers. The American idea of
customer service is to make each customer the center of attention. Need proof? Just listen to the
commercials. Most of them sound like the McDonald"s ad: "We do it all for you." Actually, not all stores
in America roll out the red carpet for their customers. But wherever you go, good customer service
means making customers feel special.
People going shopping in America can expect to be treated with respect from the very beginning.
Most places don"t have a "furniture street" or a "computer road" which allow you to compare prices
easily. Instead, people often "let their fingers do the walking" through the store hot lines. From the first
"hello", customers receive a satisfying response to their questions. This initial contact can help them
decide where to shop.
When customers get to the store, they are treated as honored guests. Customers don"t usually find
store clerks sitting around watching TV or playing cards. Instead, the clerks greet them warmly and offer
to help them find what they want. In most stores, the clear signs that label each department make
shopping a breeze. Customers usually don"t have to ask how much items cost, since prices are clearly
marked. And unless they"re at a flea market or a yard sale, they don"t bother trying to bargain.
When customers are ready to check out, they find the nearest and shortest checkout lane. But as
Murphy"s Law would have it, whichever lane they get in, all the other lanes will move faster. Good stores
open new checkout lanes when the lanes get too long. Some even offer express lanes for customers with
10 items or less. After they pay for their purchases, customers receive a smile and a warm "thank you"
from the clerk. Many stores even allow customers to take their shopping carts out to the parking lot.
That way, they don"t have to carry heavy bags out to the car. 1. By quoting (引用) the McDonald"s ad: "We do it all for you", the author intends to_______.A. suggest that customers believe what commercials say deeply
B. show readers the American idea on good customer service
C. express all the stores pay much attention to the customers
D. persuade readers to choose the stores with ads correctly2. In the USA, what may you do at first if you want to do some shopping?A. To visit a professional street with lots of similar stores.
B. To compare prices in many shops in the same street.
C. To make phone calls and get better shopping choices.
D. To receive other customers" answers to the questions.3. Which of the followings shows American stores offer convenience to customers in this passage?A. The store clerks don"t usually sit around watching TV or playing cards.
B. Some stores offer price bargain to the customers like a yard sale.
C. The clerks give customers a smile and a warm "thank you" after paying.
D. Some stores open new checkout lanes when the lanes are crowded.4. Which of the following can be the best title of this passage?A. Customer Service in America
B. Excellent Stores in America
C. Shopping Rules in America
D. Being King or Queen in America

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空白里填入最恰当的单词。
注意:每空一词      There are a number of advantages when it comes to living alone. However, it also comes with a few safety concerns. You still never know who will be around the corner. Don"t become another victim; be sure to follow our tips.
     1. All doors should be kept locked.
Always keep your doors locked when you are in your apartment or dorm. Make sure the doors are closed behind you when you come into the building and never leave your room unlocked, even when you are in it. There"s always a chance that someone might sneak in while you are unaware. Always try to remember to close doors behind you to ensure your safety.
     2. Don"t lose your keys.
Even if you do everything you can to keep the doors locked, criminals might still be able to come into your house with a key. Always know where your keys are to prevent this. Never put them down in a public place or give them to friends. Also, before you bring your car into the repair shop, take off the house keys.
     3. When it comes to safety, standing up for yourself is important.
If you aren"t getting all the security features you want, don"t be afraid to ask. If your lighting situation is less than ideal, discuss this with your supervisor or landlord. Talk to the campus security organization if you think a security phone near your dorm is a good idea. Request that the building employ someone to monitor those entering and leaving the building. You should feel safe where you reside (居住于), so stand up for your rights.
     4. Be careful.
You still might find yourself in a potentially dangerous situation. Check your peephole (窥视孔) before letting anyone in. Whenever you witness something around your building that makes you uncomfortable or suspicious just dial 911. It is a good idea to always walk with a friend instead of alone. Become familiar with people who live in the building, so you can keep track of anyone that is a stranger.                                             1.  ____   to  follow when living alone

If cars had wings, they could fly and that just might happen, beginning in 2011.The company Terrafugia, based in Woburn, Massachusetts, says it plans to deliver its car-plane, the Transition, to customers by
the end of 2011.
"It"s the next "wow" vehicle,"said Terrafugia vice president Richard Gersh. "Anybody can buy a Ferrari, but as we say, Ferraris don"t fly."
The car plane has wings that unfold for flying-a process the company says takes one minute-and fold
back up for driving. A runway is still required to take off and land.
The Transition is being marketed more as a plane that drives than a car that flies, although it is both.
The company has been working with FAA to meet aircraft regulations, and with the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration to meet vehicle safety regulations.
The company is aiming to sell the Transition to private pilots as a more convenient and cheaper way to
fly. They say it saves you the trouble from trying to find another mode of transportation to get to and from airports: You drive the car to the airport and then you"re good to go. When you land, you fold up the
wings and hit the road. There are no expensive parking fees because you don"t have to store it at an
airport-you park it in the garage at home.
The car-plane is designed to fly primarily under 10,000 feet. It has a maximum takeoff weight of
1,430 pounds, including fuel and passengers. Terrafugia says the Transition reduces the potential for an
accident by allowing pilots to drive under bad weather instead of flying into marginal (临界) conditions.
The Transition"s price tag: $194,000, But there may be additional charges for options like a radio,
transponder or GPS. Another option is a full-plane parachute.
"If you get into a very awful situation, it is the necessary safety option," Gersh said.
So far, the company has more than 70 orders with deposits. "We"re working very closely with them,
but there are still some remaining steps," Brown said.

C. The car-plane may fly as high as normal planes.
D. People can park the car-plane in the garage at their home.

The Atlantic Ocean is one of the oceans that separate the Old World from the New. For centuries it
kept the America from being discovered by the people of Europe.
Many wrong ideas about the Atlantic made early sailors unwilling to sail far out into it. One idea was
that it reached out to "the edge of the world" . Sailors were afraid that they might sail off the earth.
Another idea was that at the equator (赤道) the ocean would be boiling hot.
The Atlantic Ocean is only half as big as the Pacific, but it is still very large. It is more than 4,000
miles (6,000 km) wide where Columbus crossed it. Even at its narrowest it is about 2,00 miles (3,200
km) wide.
Two things make the Atlantic Ocean rather unusual. For so large an ocean it has few islands. Also,
it is the world"s saltiest ocean.
There is so much water in the Atlantic that it is hard to imagine how much there is. But suppose no
more rain fell into it and no more water was brought to it by rivers, it would take the ocean about more
than 4,000 years to dry up. On the average, the water is a little more than two miles (3.2km) deep, but in
some places it is much deeper. The deepest spot is near Puerto Rico. This "deep" measures 30,246
feet-almost six miles (9.6km).
One of the longest mountain ranges of the world rises from the floor of the Atlantic. This mountain
range runs north and south down the middle of the ocean. The tops of a few of the mountains reach up
above the sea and make islands.
Several hundred miles eastward from Florida there is a part of the ocean called the Sargasso Sea.
Here the water is quiet, for there is little wind. In the days of sailing vessels(船) the crew were afraid they would be becalmed (can"t move) here. Sometimes they were.
Today the Atlantic is a great highway. It is, however, not always a smooth and safe one. Storms
sweep across it and pile up great waves. Icebergs float down from the far North across the paths of
ships.
We now have such fast ways of traveling that this big ocean seems to have grown smaller. Columbus
sailed for more than two months to cross it. A fast modern steamship can make the trip in less than four
days. Airplanes fly from New York to London in only eight hours and from South America to Africa in
four!
1. What caused people to be unwilling to explore the Atlantic?
A. There were no ships big enough to get across the Ocean.
B. Sailors were afraid of being lost in the Ocean.
C. The Atlantic Ocean was very unusual because it has few islands and the saltiest water.
D. Many incorrect ideas such as "the edge of the world", "the equator with boiling hot
water" made people think the Ocean was full of danger.
2. What is the main idea of the fifth paragraph?
A. How deep the water is.
B. How to measure the water in the Atlantic.
C. How much water the ocean holds.
D. How rain affects the Ocean water.
3. What does the underlined word "highway" mean?
A. High road
B. Broad way
C. Fast road
D. Main water way
4. Why does the writer think "this big ocean seems to have grown smaller"?
A. The water in the ocean is becoming less.
B. We have more and more advanced traveling tools now
C. The distance between the ocean and us is shorter.
D. The steamship has a higher speed.
