Thomas Stevens was born at Great Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire, England, on December 24,1854. In 1871 he went to the USA.He left Oakland, California in 1884 on a Columbia Standard and became the first person to ride a bicycle around the world. More than one-third of the route(路线) had to be walked. He traveled for 83 1/2 days and couldn"t travel for 20 days because ofwet weather, etc., so it took him 103 1/2 days to get to Boston.
