Will the world end in 2012? Many people believe the Mayan Calendar 2012 says so. But there is still a heated argument about it. Some people say it is a big hoax. Some are sure of it. What exactly is the Mayan Calendar 2012 and who are the Mayans? The Mayans were a group of people who lived thousands of years ago in what is now Mexico. They knew so much about the world and the universe that they invented the Long Count Calendar. The Mayan Calendar 2012 is actually just part of the calendar. 3. The most interesting thing about this calendar is that it seems to predict a great disaster that will happen in the year 2012. According to it, there will be an end to the existing history and a new one will begin. One misunderstanding about the Mayan Calendar 2012 is that it points to an end of the world. While the calendar ends in 2012, it doesn"t actually indicate that the world will not exist in the year 2012. In fact, instead of referring to a real disaster(灾难) that will happen, it refers to the birth of a new period, the beginning of another circle of the calendar. 4. Whether you believe that the Mayan Calendar 2012 points to a real global disaster or not, it would be best if you keep yourself informed(消息灵通的). There are many resources about the Mayan predictions but the best are the ones that include scientific data with the discussion. You should also prepare yourself for the worst thing that can happen. While there is no need to panic, it would be useful if you can prepare yourself for natural disasters such as storms, floods and earthquakes. We should prepare for disasters that can come in any year and not just in 2012. |

Antifreeze is a liquid (液体) that is added to water to keep it from freezing. When water freezes and turns to ice, it expands (膨胀). The force of water expanding is so great that it will break the hardest metal. Water is used in car engines (发动机) to keep them cool while they run, and if this water is allowed to freeze in winter it can break the iron block of the engine. That is why antifreeze is necessary. Water freezes at 0℃;the usual kind of antifreeze will not freeze until the temperature is -40℃. A mixture (混合物) of five parts of water and four parts of antifreeze will prevent freezing at -18℃; four parts of water and five parts of antifreeze reduce this to -22℃. Alcohol is a kind of good antifreeze, but when the air is running it becomes hot and the alcohol boils away, so it must be changed very often.
