These three things are spelling, pronunciation and meanings.
First, a dictionary will tell you the spelling of a word. If you are not sure about the spelling of a word,
you can try to find the correct spelling in a dictionary. Words are listed in a alphabetical order-a,b,c and
so on. For example, on a dictionary page the word "poor" p,o,o,r - comes before "poverty" - p,o,v,e,r,t,y
   - and the word "proverty" comes before the word "power" - p,o,w,e,r. The words are always given in
  alphabetical order.
The second thing, a dictionary will tell you pronunciation. Most dictionary give phonetic, or sound,
alphabet. The phonetic spelling will tell you how a word is pronounced. There are a few different
phonetic alphabets. Many dictionaries use the International Phonetic Alphabet to show pronunciation.
The third thing, a dictionary will tell you the meanings of the words. You can look up a word and find
out what it means. Many words have more than one meaning, and a good dictionary will tell you all of the word"s meanings. For example, in English the common word "get" has over 20 different meanings.

C. "remote" first and "remove" last
D. "remove" first and "remount" last
3. Many words have _____.

B. few meanings
C. one thing
D. no meaning
4. A better dictionary can tell you _____.
A. more of the word"s pronunciation

C. more of the word"s spelling
D. more of grammer
5. Phonetic alphabets are used to show _____.

When you are learning English, you find it not clever to put an English sentence, word for word, into
your own language. Take the sentence "How do you do?" for example. If you look up each word in the
dictionary, one at a time, what is your translation? It must be a wrong sentence in your own language.
Language do not just have different sounds, they are different in many ways. It"s important to learn
the rules for word order in the study of English,  too.  If the speakers put words in a wrong order,  the
listener can"t understand the speaker"s sentence easily. Sometimes when the order of words in an English
sentence is changed,  the meaning of the sentence changes.  But sometimes the order is changed,  the
meaning of the sentence doesn"t change. Let"s see the difference between the two pairs of sentences.
"She only likes apples." "Only she likes apples."
"I have seen the film already." "I have already seen the film."
When you are learning English, you must do your best to get the spirit of the language and use it as
the English speaker does.

A. the meaning of an English sentence always changes with the order of the words.

 Light reflecting
You cannot see any object unless light from that object gets into your eyes. Some of the things you see
give off light of their own. The sun, the stars, a lighted lamp are the examples that can be seen by their own
light. Such things are luminous, most of the things you see are not giving off light of their own. They are
simply reflecting light that falls on them from the sun or some other luminous body. The moon, for
example, doesn"t give off any light of its own. It is nonluminous. You see it because sunlight falls on it and
some of it reflects in our direction. So moonlight is only second-hand sunlight.
When you look at a book, it sends some of the light which falls on it to your eyes, and you see the
book. If light could be kept out from where you are so that there would be no light from the book to
reflect, then you could not see the book even with your eyes wide open. Light travels so fast that the time
in which it travels from the book you are reading to your eyes is as short as if there were no time at all.
Light reaches us from the moon, which is about 380, 000 kilometers away, in only a little more than a
 second.

    A. 380,000
    B. 100,000
