阅读短文,选择正确答案。       One day, I went to see my last patient (病人), an old woman. In the doorway, I saw she was struggling
(挣扎) to put socks on her swollen (浮肿)feet in the bed. I stepped in, spoke quickly to the nurse, read her
chart noting. I was almost in the clear that she was not in serious condition.
I asked, "Could I help put on your socks? How are you feeling? Your sugars and blood pressure were high
but they"re better today. The nurse mentioned you"re anxious to see your son. He"s visiting you today. It"s nice to
have a family visit. I think you really look forward to seeing him."
"Sit down, doctor. This is my story, not yours." She said with a serious voice.
I was surprised as I helped her with the socks. She told me that her only son lived around the corner from
her, but she had not seen him in five years. She believed that was the main cause of her health problems. After
hearing her story and putting on her socks, I asked if there was anything else I could do for her. She shook her
head no and smiled. All she wanted me to do was to listen.
Each story is different. Some are detailed; others are simple. Some have a beginning, middle and end; others
don"t have clear ends. Some are true; others not. Yet all those things do not really matter. What matters to the
storyteller is that the story is heard — without interruption (打断) or judgment (评价).
It was that woman who taught me the importance of stopping, sitting down and truly listening. And, not
long after, in an unexpected accident, I became a patient. 20 years later, I sit all the time — in a wheelchair.

B. No one listening to her story.
C. The medical care of the hospital.
D. The distance between her and her son. 4. When the patient told the doctor her stories, what she needed might be _______.

[     ]

A. keeping smiling
B. interruption or judgment
C. listening without interruption
D. communicating with each other 5. Which statement is NOT right according to the passage?

阅读短文,选择正确答案。       When I was seven years old, my family made me an ant farm. First, we put clean sand in a thin glass box.
Then we waited for the ants to arrive.
After the ants were in the glass farm, they started to make tunnels (地道). I was amazed that each one
knew exactly what to do. Each had its own job.
On the fifth day a tragedy (悲剧) happened. I put my face so close to the glass farm that I knocked it
over. All the tunnels fell down. Although the ants remained alive after their earthquake, one by one they began
to die. I was scared as I watched them give up building their tunnels to carry the bodies to a corner of the farm.
My mother said that the ants were dying of sadness. They simply could not stand that their tunnels were
gone.
Although much time has passed, I still think of that ant farm. Mom had hoped it would teach me about the
natural world, but it taught me much more.
Over the years, I came to realize the importance of teamwork. Working together, the ants were able to make
an amazing world for themselves. I also learned that they should be admired (钦佩) for their hard work.
But there was an even larger lesson that I did not realize until recently: Adversity (逆境) is a natural part
of life, and must be accepted. Unlike the ants, we cannot give up when we are sad. We have to realize that if a
tunnel is gone, we must build another.
Giving up, I say, is not a good choice. 1. What did the writer"s family do for him when he was seven? [     ]
A. They built a farm of ants.
B. They bought a few ants.
C. They caught a lot of ants.
D. They found an ant city. 2. Which statement is WRONG according to the passage? [     ]
A. The writer knocked the glass box over because he put his face so close to the glass farm.
B. The ants didn"t die one by one after the tunnels were destroyed.
C. Like people, teamwork is very important for the ants.
D. Giving up isn"t a good way when we meet trouble. 3. Among the following events, which one happened first? [     ]
A. All the tunnels fell down.
B. The ants died one by one.
C. The ants got into the glass box.
D. The ants began making tunnels. 4. What did the writer learn from the ant tragedy a few years later? [     ]
A. Working together is useless.
B. Teamwork is important.
C. He can"t accept adversity.
D. Working alone is amazing. 5. What is the best title for the passage? [     ]
A. Ants Fear Adversity
B. My Family and Ants
C. Giving Up in Adversity
D. Don"t give up anytime

阅读理解。    How important is your appearance? Although everyone wants to be good-looking, are beautiful people
always happier people? For example, it must be a problem to be a really beautiful woman, because some
people may be more interested in looking at you than talking to you. They think of you as a picture rather
than a person. There are also some people who think that women who are exceptionally (格外地) pretty
and men who are particularly handsome must be stupid. They believe that only unattractive (无魅力的)
people can be intelligent.
On the other hand, no one wants to be really ugly, and have a face that even your mother doesn"t want
to look at; and no one wants to be plain, either-that is, to be neither attractive nor unattractive, and have
a face that is easily forgotten.
Being attractive is like being rich-it can help you find happiness, but it doesn"t always make you happy.
So maybe the best thing is not to worry too much about how you look, but simply try to be an interesting
person. For interesting people have interesting faces, and interesting faces are almost always attractive. 根据短文内容,判断正(T),误(F)。
(     )1. Everyone wants to be attractive.
(     )2. No one likes to talk to a very pretty woman.
(     )3. Some people think that handsome men are uninteresting.
(     )4. A plain face is easily forgotten.
(     )5. Not many interesting people are also attractive.

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods and two of them fell into a deep hole. When the other
frogs saw how deep the hole was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs
ignored (不理睬) the comments and tried to jump out of the hole with all their strength.
The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs
considered what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog continued
to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs shouted at him to stop the pain and just die. He
jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?"
The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him all the time.

阅读下面的短文,并根据短文内容后的要求答题。      In today"s world many people seemed to be hungry for money. Money does have its most useful effect on
the poor. But even if a person has already got plenty of money, ______.
If money were everything, all millionaires would have real love, true friendship, good health and a long life.
However, this is not always correct.
Since the beginning of time no three words have ever invited more pleasure than "I love you". But can love
be bought? I"m afraid not. Love means to give, not to take. To every person, health and a long life are probably
the best thing. Well, can health and a long life be bought with money? The answer is "No".
Of all the longest living people in the world, few of them are millionaires. True friendship can"t be bought,
either. In a word, where money is dreamed too much, it can cause brothers to quarrel, marriage to end, lovers
to hate, and strangers to fight. No matter how much money you have, it is still not enough to make a happy
person if you have no one to laugh with, no one to cry for.
