I climbed Kilimanjaro with Lava Expeditions (探险队) during the rainy season. I flew to Nairobi in Kenya and spent several days there. At my hotel in Nairobi I met the rest of the group with whom I would spend the next week. We all travelled on the bus together for a 6-hour journey into Tanzania and then Arusha , a quiet town. After we arrived at our hotel in Arusha , we had dinner and a few drinks. Then we were introduced to more members including Taddeus Minja, the main guide, who was very experienced — climbing Kilimanjaro runs through the generations (代) of his family. The next day the Lava Expeditions members checked if we had the correct and enough clothing for our expedition on Kilimanjaro. Only one person needed to bring more clothes. After that we set off, walking in the rain through the beauty of the rainforest, all the way to the first camp. I was happy the next few days as the view was so wonderful and changed every day. I suffered a little during the trip and I felt so tired. But the members of Lava Expeditions provided me with lots of encouragement, which was one of the best memories. Finally we reached the top of Kilimanjaro in bright blue skies. I felt excited about climbing Kilimanjaro and the feeling didn’t change during my trip. An earthquake is one of the most common natural disasters. It may cause great damage. So it is wise to learn some simple safety tips to protect yourself or your family members. Fragile items, like those made of glass are easily broken and should usually be placed on a lower surface, near the ground instead of placing them on cupboards higher up. Never place them near your bed, sofas and other furniture where you would be sitting or lying down. When there is a strong movement, these pieces will fall on the floor directly and not on you. There is a strong chance of short circuits (短路) and fire breakouts during an earthquake. Make sure you turn off electrical connections and gas immediately when an earthquake happens. During an earthquake, lie beneath an object that is not easily damaged. Do not go near objects that could directly fall on you. Never use the elevator to go down. Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Research has shown that most injuries happen when people inside buildings try to go out. Use the staircases at all times. If you are outdoors, do not take shelter under a tree, streetlights, electric poles or tall buildings. If you are driving, stop your car and stay in a safe place. Do not park your car under a tree or any tall object. If trapped in debris (瓦砾堆), cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing. Tap on a pipe or wall so rescuers can find you. Use a whistle (哨子) if one is available. Never shout for help. Shouting can cause you to breathe in dangerous amounts of dust. Do not light a match because you may burn yourself. Do not move about or kick up dust. 小题1:The purpose of the passage is to tell readers _____.A.the damage caused by earthquakes | B.the rescue work after earthquakes | C.what to do about earthquakes | D.how to prevent earthquakes | 小题2: The underlined word “Fragile” in Paragraph 2 probably means _____.A.easily broken | B.easily found | C.expensive | D.heavy | 小题3:To reduce the injury from the earthquake, items made of glass should be put _____.A.on cupboards | B.in the bedroom | C.on a lower surface | D.where children can’t reach them | 小题4:During the earthquake, people are advised to _____.A.go out the building at once | B.turn off electricity and gas immediately | C.take shelter under a tree | D.drive to a safe place quickly | 小题5:What should people NOT do when they are trapped in debris?A.Cover their mouth with a handkerchief. | B.Tap on a pipe or wall for help. | C.Use a whistle for help. | D.Light a match for help. |

If we want to deal with the association(交往) between boys and girls properly, here are some “dos and don’ts” for you to follow. Keep a normal and healthy state of mind. Our schools and classes are made up of boys and girls. It is very natural for the boys and girls to make friends with each other. We should make as many friends as possible. We should keep in touch with the other sex(性别) in public instead of in secret. Don’t be too nervous or too shy. If you are a shy person, you can also find a way out. First of all, you can make friends with the students who have the same interest and hobby as you. As both of you have much in common, you may have much to talk about. If you keep doing like that, little by little, you will gladly find you are also as free to express yourself as others. Don’t fall into the ditch of early love. The boys and girls at adolescence(青春期) are rich in feeling. They are easy to regard the friendship as a sign of love and fall in love with each other at an early age. In my opinion, early love is a green apple that can’t be eaten. An apple won’t taste sweet until it is fully ripe. Boys and girls at middle school are too young to carry the heavy duty of love. Do keep out of early love. 小题1:The main idea of the passage is to ______.A.tell students to keep away from early love | B.give some advice on how to associate between boys and girls | C.tell students how to make friends | D.teach boys how to talk with girls | 小题2:We should keep in touch with the other sex in the following EXCEPT ______.A.with a good state of mind | B.in real friendship | C.in public | D.in secret | 小题3: If you are a shy person, you can _______.A.find friends with the same interest and hobby first | B.only have a few friends of the same sex | C.not make friends with the other sex | D.not fail in love with other students easily | 小题4:What does the underlined word “ditch” mean? |

“ I’d like to be at a healthier weight , ” a friend told me . “ But we just don’t have the money to buy expensive diet foods and there isn’t enough money to join a gym .” Many people feel that way—that a healthy diet and exercise plan is out of reach because of their high cost . Don’t lose hope ! We’ll be looking at ways to make healthy choices without spending too much money . First you don’t need to buy the expensive pre-prepared “ diet foods . ” Back in the early 1970s when I started housekeeping , 90% of the food I bought was ingredients . Very few things were preprocessed(预处理的). Now 90% of the food you find in the store is quick food . That’s a bad thing . Quick foods like boxed “ just add hamburger ” meals have had the fiber removed to make them faster to prepare . Take a look at the label on that box . It often has low numbers listed under “ fiber ” because fiber takes longer to digest . If the low fiber meal is digested , the result is that your body begins to store fat . Besides , your body is short of nutrients(营养物质). You will be driven to eat more to try to make up for the low quality of the food you are eating . And then there are the chemicals the producers add to the quick meals to make them palatable . If not , the stuff would taste like cardboard and you wouldn’t enjoy it . However , these chemicals certainly aren’t good for your health . What’s the answer ? Buy whole ingredients and give up the expensive , low nutrition , processed foods . Do the cooking yourself and you will have control over what is in your food —and it will cost less , too . 小题1:People who find it hard to get a healthier weight think .A.they had too much diet foods | B.they didn’t make a detailed plan | C.they have no time to do exercise in gym | D.they can’t afford diet foods and to exercise in gym | 小题2: The author doesn’t like quick food mainly because .A.it contains too much fat | B.it makes people eat less | C.it has low fiber | D.it takes longer to digest | 小题3:The underlined word “ palatable ” in Paragraph 4 probably means “ ”.A.fresh | B.delicious | C.healthy | D.simple | 小题4:The author suggests in the text that people should .A.control the amount of food | B.eat more processed foods | C.cook food for themselves | D.choose cheap ingredients | 小题5:Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage ? -There is a very special wolf that lives in Africa. They are actually called, the African wild dog, or painted dogs. These animals live in open woodlands. or in the plains of Africa. Today, however, most of the animals can be found in eastern or southern Africa. These animals are beautiful. They have rounded ears instead of pointed like most dogs, and they have four toes (脚趾) on each of their feet, also a unique characteristic because other dogs have five. Their fur is always different from each other. The fur is usually a combination of black, brown, red, and white, and sometimes even yellow. No wonder they’re called the painted wolf. The African wild dog is a very social animal. They live in groups and have numbers from five to about twenty. The members of a group are always very close to one another. They communicate in their own language or body language. When someone is very old or sick, the others will help, and they are willing to share the food with elders and with those who are weak, which is what we should learn from. The family does everything together, from raising young, to sleeping together, to hunting. When they hunt, they work together using team work to kill animals that are larger than them. They sometimes hunt farm animals. This is unfortunate, because both poachers (偷猎者), and people who own farms shoot the painted dogs who are just trying to survive. Before, there used to be many large groups throughout the land, but now the African wild dog is very rare. They are also losing their population because of their own loss of habitat thanks to human’s farming and forest cutting. 小题1:Why do African wild dogs get the name “painted dogs” ?A.They all have colorful fur. | B.The dogs in the same group are of different colors. | C.Artists love to paint them in different colors. | D.None of them has the same color. | 小题2:According to the author, what should we learn from African wild dogs?A.They always do everything together. | B.They are always very close to one another. | C.They help the sick, the elderly and the weak. | D.They communicate in their own language. | 小题3:Which of the following is NOT the reason why African wild dogs are becoming very rare?A.Poachers kill some of them. | B.They are short of food sometimes. | C.They are losing their habitat. | D.Farmers shoot some of them. | 小题4:Where could this passage probably be found?A.The Travelers | B.Fashion Weekly | C.Animal World | D.Star Magazine |
