摘 要：英语语言最重要的就是一词多义,在众多意义中选择既忠实原文又符合汉语表达习惯的译词,则是非常的困难,词义选择恰当,译词才能忠实的表达原文意思,否则译文将晦涩难懂,不易理解,甚至还可能引起误解.本文引用一些英译汉时的例子,从词类,上下文 ,不同领域专业,词义褒贬等几方面探讨了选择词义的方法.

Abstract: Polysemy is essential to the English language. Therefore, sorting through a multitude of meanings to select a Chinese word that can both stay honest to the original English of a translated work, yet still accord with normal Chinese habits of expression is incredibly difficult. Translated words must be selected appropriately to honestly express the meaning of the original text, otherwise the translated product will be muddied and ambiguous, difficult to understand, and possibly even subject to misinterpretation. This essay will use a few examples of works translated from English to Chinese, looking at the issues of part of speech, context, words from different fields of specialty, and (positive and negative word) connotation(s) to explore methods for conveying specific meaning while translating.
