The idea of what shaking the head means is not always the same in different countries. Maybe some visitors would be surprised when they first come to India. When they talk to an Indian, they would find he would often shake his head. The visitors might think that the Indian doesn’t like what they say. But in fact, they would be completely wrong. Indians always shake their heads when they talk to others. It doesn’t mean “No”. If someone wants to visit India, he should know this, or he will be in trouble. One day, a foreign officer went to India on business. He hired a car and asked an Indian to drive him. When he told his driver to take him to his office, the Indian shook his head at once. The officer said again and the driver shook his head again. At last the officer, of course, got angry. “How dare you refuse my order?” he shouted, “Drive me to my office at once!” The driver answered in quite a loud voice, too. “Yes, sir!” But to the officer’s surprise, the driver shook his head at the same time. The car started and the foreign officer was now too surprised to say a word. He thought about it for a while, and then he nodded with a smile, “‘No’ means ‘Yes’ here!” 小题1:What does shaking one’s head mean all over the world?A.Yes. | B.No. | C.Glad. | D.Yes or No. | 小题2:What should you do in India if you agree with somebody?A.Shake your head. | B.Nod your head. | C.Speak in a loud voice. | D.Say it again and again. | 小题3:Why did the officer go to India?A.He went there to visit his friend. | B.He went there to buy a car. | C.He went there to learn driving. | D.He went there because of his job. | 小题4:Why did the officer get angry?A.Because the driver didn’t understand him. | B.Because the driver still shook his head after he said again. | C.Because the driver didn’t like the officer. | D.Because the driver didn’t answer in a loud voice. | 小题5:What can we learn from the story?A.When you are in India, you should always shake your head. | B.You shouldn’t shake your head if you’re a driver. | C.Shaking head will make others get angry. | D.Different countries have different customs. |

To my family and friends, As some of you know, I have just started my tour in the remote mountain area. Everything is going really well, so no .The land is beautiful but unfortunately it has a lot of too. I have received several emails asking what I need while I"m here .so I decided to write you all and let you know that I don’t need anything. At least not for me. I’m asking all of you to send me a few to help the local children. Let me explain. On 12 May 2009, in a small village here, 120 school age girls were by a gas leak(煤气泄漏). Most have but 6 are still in hospital. Even though the local government speaks about the of education for both boys and girls but most of these kids only attend school for four hours a day if they are even allowed to go. They are so excited and to learn, but then have to things like being sprayed(喷射) with acid or poisoned. Most of these kids are poor and can’t a pencil, pen or even paper to write on. So my co-workers and I are planning a trip to several schools to promote and to give these kids some of the they need. That is where all of you come in. If you can, please whatever school supplies you currently have . That would be a huge help. I know how busy you are so thank you for taking the to do this and I will post pictures of this after we go. Thank you again. Todd Tucker

Many earthquakes happen without warning, so it is important to know what to do when it happens. Here are some tips on how to stay safe in earthquakes. ◆Keep a cool head. Worry won’t help you. Think about what you should do. The first several seconds are important. ◆If you are indoors, stay inside and duck and cover. Hide under a desk or table, or stand in a corner. Cover your head and neck with your arms. Stay away from windows and anything that could fall on you. ◆If you are in a crowded(拥挤的) hall or shop, don’t rush for the door. You will find too many people trying to get out at the same time. Instead, lower(降低) yourself close to the ground and cover your head and neck with your hands and arms. ◆If you are outdoors, try to get into an open area away from buildings, trees or street lights. ◆If you are trapped in a place, you may make noises by knocking at the rocks. But don’t shout all the time. You could be without help for up to 72 hours. Try to find some water and food. ◆Stay in your seat if in a cinema or a theatre. Get below the level(水平线) of the back of the seat. Cover your head and neck with your arms. ◆Stay in a safe area until you are sure it’s OK to leave. Some aftershocks(余震) may follow. What’s the most important thing in your life? Do you think about this question? I began to think about it when I was just a little girl. I had a lot of friends and I loved playing with them. So I thought friendship(友谊) was the most important thing in life. If I had no friends, I would be very sad. When I got older, I thought the most important thing was music. I was crazy about music at that time. To me, if I couldn’t sing or listen to music, my life would be boring. When I was 12, I read a book that tells a beautiful story about the love between a mother and her child. I was happy to find that love was the most important thing. I thought love made my life beautiful. Not long ago, I got a new answer to the question from another book. “Happiness is the destination(目标) for everyone.” the writer said. Soon I began to understand friendship, music, love and happiness are all very important to us. These important things make our lives colourful and beautiful. What’s the most important thing in life now? I still don’t have the answer. However, I don’t want to know. I just want to care about everything important in my life. I hope everyone can find the important things in their lives, and cherish them!

As a famous American writer, Mark Twain, once said, “Everybody talks about weather, but nobody anything about it.” It is true that everybody talks about the weather. Many people their talks by saying, “Isn’t it a nice ?” “Do you think it will rain?” “I think it’s going to snow.” A large number of people think they can tell the weather is going to be like. However, they ever agree with each other. One man may say, “Do you see how cloudy it is in the east? It’s going to rain tomorrow.” Another man say, “Yes, it’s cloudy in the east. We are going to have fine weather tomorrow.” People often look for the weather they want. When a farmer needs water, he looks for something to tell him it’s going to rain and he won’t believe else. When friends have a picnic, they are so the weather is going to be fine that they sit their lunch while it is raining. Almost everyone listens to what the weatherman says. But he doesn’t always tell us what we want and sometimes he makes a mistake. Still, he is most of the time.
