In the past, when people had problems, they usually went to their families or friends to get advice. Today it is possible to get advice from radio shows, TV programmes and telephone hot lines. A hot line is a telephone line. It offers a direct way of getting in touch with advisers. Most hot lines are completely anonymous. That is to say, callers do not have to say their names or telephone numbers. Most hot lines are free. Callers do not have to pay for the advice or the phone calls. At some hot lines, the advisers are volunteers. Other hot lines pay their advisers for their work. Why do people cry? Scientists say the body produces tears because they need them. One kind of tears is for the eye, the other is for the heart. They both work as cleaners. If something else like dust(灰尘) gets into your eye, tears also come into the eye to clean it out. If you are hurt by something, your strong feelings produce some poisonous chemicals(毒素) in your body, and at the same time, tears come out with them. If these poisonous chemicals are not cleaned out of your body as soon as possible, they will do harm to the heart sooner or later.
In the United States men have heart problems more often than women do. Doctors say heart problems have something to do with the pressures(压力) of living and working now. Perhaps men suffer more from these illnesses because they do not cry enough. They need to cry more.
In fact, you can find many ways of reducing the pressures to keep fit. Crying is a natural and physical one.

Food or friends? Lip salve (润唇膏) or iPod? What is the most important thing in the US teenagers’ lives today? Let’s take a look.

Hello, I’m Vladislav. For my summer holidays, I usually stay in a country house near Moscow.
Last summer, my dad’s brother gave me a present — a blue bike. At that time I couldn’t ride it very well.
One day I got into an accident. But don’t worry, everything was OK, just some “little” injuries.
That day, I tried to ride my bike and suddenly it began to move very fast. I couldn’t stop the bike. So I fell into a ditch (沟) full of dirty water. When I thought I had had enough bad luck, a girl walked by. She saw the bike and me. I quickly stood up.
“Are you fishing here?” she asked.
“Yes,” I answered. Then I said, “I’m making fish soup for dinner. Would you like to come?” To my surprise, she agreed.
After that we became friends. Now, we often send each other e-mails. She knows that I’m studying in China and she asks me questions about Chinese culture. I tell her my stories of China, and she says she wants to visit China, too. She even plans to study Chinese.
This is how, with the help of my bike, China got one more Russian friend.
