Mrs. Baker’s sister was ill. She had someone to look after her from Monday to Fr

题型:不详难度:来源:

Mrs. Baker’s sister was ill. She had someone to look after her from Monday to Friday, but not at the weekend, so every Friday evening Mrs. Baker used to go off to spend the weekend with her at her home in a neighbouring town. But as Mr. Baker could not cook, she had arranged (安排) for his sister to come over and spend the weekend looking after him at their home. This meant that Mr. Baker had busy time when he came home from work on Friday evenings. First he had to drive home from the railway station. Then he had to drive his wife to the station to catch her train. And then he had to wait until his sister’s train arrived, so as to take her to his house.
Of course, on Sunday evening he had to drive his sister to the station to catch her train back home, and then wait for his wife’s train, so as to bring her home.
One Sunday evening, he had seen his sister off on her train and was waiting for his wife’s arrival when a porter ( 搬运工 ), who had often seen him at the station, came over and spoke to him, “You are having a lot of fun,” he said, “ But one day one of those women is going to catch you with the other, and then you will be in real trouble!”

小题5: C
解析

试题分析:
小题1:根据Mrs. Baker’s sister was ill.可知选D。
小题2:根据so every Friday evening Mrs. Baker used to go off to spend the weekend with her at her home in a neighbouring town.

Baker’s sister和for his sister to come over可知这是两个妹妹,一个是妻子的,一个是丈夫的。还要注意进行合理的分析推理,理解句意隐含的意义。

What do we really mean by being open? Being open is a kind of invitation to others to come in, to speak and to share. It is important in letting others get to know how we think and feel. In this way we will be understood and accepted by others. If we aren’t open with others, we won’t fully believe in ourselves or others.
Here are a few ways for you to be more open. First, make your outside behavior the same with your inside feelings and thoughts. Second, share how you really feel about something instead of just opinions. Third, try to change your questions into statements(陈述句) and talk in the first person so that people will understand you more easily. For example, you might say, “I feel happy that you’re here,” instead of, “Are you glad that you’re here?” Finally, try not to say, “I don’t know.” This usually means I don’t want to think about it any more.
Remember also that it is not suitable to be open with everyone in every situation. You may want to be more open with close friends, but not with people you don’t know well, because you are not sure how someone else will use what they know about you. Besides, some people may not be used to too much openness. If we say everything we feel or think to them, they will feel very uncomfortable at times.
In all, being open is a good way for us to get on well with other people, but we’d better keep the balance between being open and not being too open.
