There can be many reasons. Hanna changed her name to Anne because she thought it would be easier
for people to remember. On the other hand, Joseph is thinking about changing his name to an unusual
name because he wants to be different.
People have a lot of reasons for changing their names. Film stars, singers, sportsmen and some other
famous people often change their names because they want names that are not ordinary (普通的), or
that have special sound. They chose the "new name" for themselves instead of the name their parents
gave them when they were born.
Some people have another reason for changing their names. They have moved to a new country and
want to use a name that is usual there. For example, Li Kaiming changed his name to Ken Lee when he
moved to the United States. He uses the name Ken at his job and at school. But with his family and
Chinese friends, he uses Li Kaiming. For some people, using different names makes life easier in their
new country.
In many countries, a woman changes her family name (姓) to her husband"s after she gets married
(结婚). But today, many women are keeping their own family names and not using their husbands".

阅读短文,回答问题。       If you are in a town in western country, you"ll often see people walking with their dogs. It is still true that a
dog is the most useful animal in the world, but the reason why one keeps a dog has changed. Once upon a time, a man met a dog and wanted it to help him in the fight against other animals, and he found that the dog listened
to him and did what he told to. Later people used dogs for the hunting of other animals, and the dogs did not eat what they got until their master agreed. So dogs were used for driving sheep and guarding chickens.
But now the people in the towns and cities do not need dogs to fight against other animals. Of course they
keep them to frighten thieves, but the most important reason is that people feel lonely in the city. For a child, a
dog is his best friend when he has no friends to play with. For a young wife, a dog is her child when she doesn"t
have her own. For old people, a dog is also a child when their real children have grown up and left. Now people
do not have to use a dog, but they keep it as a friend, just like a member of the family. 1. ____ are more useful than a dog in the world. [     ]
A. No other animals

C. Many animals
