Some people like to get up early, but some do not. In fact, it is really good for us to get up early every day. Maybe those who don’t like getting up early will not believe this, but it is true. Scientists made a survey(调查) in about one thousand people, and then they found that early rising people had less disease(疾病) than late rising people, and early rising people also look healthier than late rising people, and so on. So we may know early rising is helpful in more than one way. Firstly, it helps to keep us healthy. We all need fresh(新鲜的) air. And air is the freshest early in the morning. Besides(此外), it is useful to do morning exercises. Secondly, early rising helps us in our studies. In the morning we learn more quickly and find it easier to understand what we learn. Thirdly, early rising can give us a plan of our work for the day. We cannot work well without a good plan. Fourthly, early rising gives us enough time to get ready for our work, such as to wash our hands and faces and eat our breakfast. Late risers may find it difficult to form(形成) the habit(习惯) of early rising. They have to make an effort(努力) to do so. As the English proverb(谚语) says, “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” 小题1:We may read this passage in a _______ magazine.A.health | B.sports | C.music | D.travel | 小题2:Early rising people are _______ than late rising people.A.fatter | B.thinner | C.healthier | D.cleverer | 小题3:Air is the freshest ______ according to the passage.A.in the morning | B.in the afternoon | C.in the evening | D.all day | 小题4:Which of the following is NOT the result(结果) of early rising?A.People can get ready for their work. | B.People can get fresh air. | C.People can learn things more quickly and better. | D.People can have enough food for breakfast. | 小题5:If a man always likes to get up late, it’s ___ for him to form the habit of getting up early.A.easy | B.difficult | C.happy | D.sad |

During the day we work and play; at night we sleep. Our bodies rest while we sleep. In the morning we are ready to work and play again. While we are asleep, our bodies grow most. Children who are tired usually need more sleep. We can get our lessons better and we feel better too, when we have had plenty of rest. Boys and girls who are eight or nine years old need ten hours of sleep every night. Our bodies need plenty of air when we sleep. If we do not get enough fresh(新鲜的)air we’ll feel tired when we wake up. While in bed we must not cover our heads. If we do, our lungs(肺)will not get enough fresh air. It"s important to learn about protecting our environment. Here is a 5R rule for us: 1.Reduce If you want to reduce waste, you should use things wisely. Millions of trees are being cut down to make paper. If everyone uses a little paper carelessly and throw it out, soon we would not have any trees left. Other things are also being wasted, and people don"t know what to do with the waste in big cities. So it is necessary to reduce the waste 2.Reuse You should always think of reusing the usable things before throwing them out. Give your clothes you do not use or the ones which are too small to the poor. With a family, you may pass on such clothes to younger brothers or sisters. 3. Recycle Bottles, cans and paper can easily be recycled. By doing so, we save lots of time and money. For example, coke cans are sent to a factory, where they are smashed flat(压平)and melted(融化)and the melted things are made for new coke cans. 4.Recover When you buy a box of apples, there may be a few rotten(腐烂的)apples, You have two choices: one is to throw the whole apple away, or you could cut off the rotten parts and eat the good parts. In this way, you are recovering the eatable parts of food. 5. Repair If one of the legs of your table is broken, you can repair it instead of throwing it away. If you want to change for better ones, It is better for you to sell the old things or give them to other people who can use them after doing some repair. It is true that North America is a "throw-away" society(社会).But the time has come to change our way of life so that we can protect our environment. Every one of us should try our best. 小题1:_______can be recycled.A.Only hard things | B.Many things | C.Few soft things | D.A11 things | 小题2:The "recover" rule mainly requires us_______.A.to throw waste things away | B.to cover waste things with earth | C.to get back the useful parts | D.to throw the whole things away | 小题3:We can infer(推断)that the writer of this passage may live in_______.A.China | B.Japan | C.Australia | D.America | 小题4:Which of the following is true?A.We will have no resources(资源)of nature unless we can do with the waste. | B.Recycling is the best way to save resources. | C.If we waste less, we can save more resources of nature | D.More things are wasted in developed countries than in developing ones. |

Some people believe that classes, teachers and school buildings will no longer be necessary in the near future because of the Internet and other new technology. Perhaps this will be true one day, but if the world has no schools, I can"t imagine how our society will be. In fact, we should learn how to use new technology to make schools better. We should invent a new kind of school connected to libraries, museums, science centers, labs and even companies. Technological companies should create learning programs for schools. Scientists could give talks through the Internet. TV networks and local stations could develop programs about things students are studying in school. Labs could set up websites to show new technology, so students could see it on the Internet. Is this a dream? No. There have been many cities where this is beginning to happen. Here the whole city is connected to the Internet, and learning can take place at home, at school, and in the office. Businesses provide programs for the schools and the society. The schools provide computer labs for people without their own computers at home. Because everyone can go on the Internet, older people use it as much as younger ones, and everyone can visit faraway libraries and museums as easily as nearby ones. How will this new thing of school change the usual way of learning? It is a little early to be sure, but it is very exciting to think about it. Technology will change the way we learn; schools will change as well; and we will learn something from the Internet. 小题1:Who thinks that students won’t have to go to school?A.Everyone. | B.The writer. | C.Some people. | D.The teachers. | 小题2:What does “a new kind of school” mean in the passage?A.A school with many new computers. | B.A school with many new students. | C.A school with many new teachers. | D.A school connected to the Internet. | 小题3:What the writer thinks is that____________.A.schools are still necessary | B.more schools should be built | C.there should be fewer schools | D.more computers are needed in schools | 小题4:Why do people think learning can take place at home, at school, and in the office?A.Because whole city is connected to the Internet. | B.Because everyone can go on the Internet. | C.Because getting online is very easy. | D.Because Scientists could give talks through the Internet. | 小题5:What fact does the passage NOT provide?A.Technology will change our way of learning. | B.If you are a student, you can set up websites to show new technology. | C.The schools provide computer labs for those who have no personal computers. | D.On the Internet, you can visit another city"s libraries as easily as the people there. |

My teachers suggested that I see a speech specialist (专家) in school. I never really gave much thought to my speech. If other people understood what I was saying, then that was good enough. I didn’t mind repeating myself many times. Before testing me, the speech specialist asked me what I thought of having good speech. I told her I thought it was not important. “Well, when you are in an interview for a job, and they don’t know what you are saying, what are they going to say to you? Nice meeting you, bye,” she said. Maybe good speech was important. I took part in 20-minute classes each week with the specialist. After she tested me, she told me that I spoke too fast, and didn’t give enough eye contact (眼神交流). I learned that when I made eye contact with someone, it meant that I was talking to that person, and I could also see what he or she thought about what I was saying. When my first speech class started, I found that I had been speaking too fast to be understood. Every time I spoke too fast, the specialist stopped me and told me to start again. At first, I got stopped after almost every other sentence. After a while, I felt my speech slow down. I wasn’t sure if people could understand me better, but my friends stopped asking me to repeat myself. Speech is an important skill to have. If you do have good speech, that’s a good thing, but if you don’t have it, it is never too late to improve. 小题1:The article is probably taken from .A.a newspaper | B.an advertisement | C.a detective story | D.a science book | 小题2:What did the writer think of having good speech before the classes?A.It was very useful. | B.It was nothing important. | C.It was impossible. | D.It was good for interviewing. | 小题3:What were the writer’s problems when he was speaking? a. He spoke too quickly. b. He never stopped once he started talking. c. He seldom kept eye contact with people. d. He didn’t give others time to ask questions.小题4:From the sentence “but my friends stopped asking me to repeat myself,” we know that _____.A.the writer’s friends couldn’t understand him | B.the writer still couldn’t make eye contact | C.the writer improved a lot | D.the writer didn’t slow down | 小题5:Through the passage, the writer wants to tell us that _____.A.seeing a speech specialist is necessary | B.speech is an important skill to have | C.good speech can help you make friends | D.good speech gets good affect |

When I was a child I never said, "When I grow up, I want to be a CEO," but here I am. When I look back on my career, I realize the road to becoming a CEO isn"t a straight, clear path. In fact, no two paths are the same. But whether you want to be a boss one day or not, there"s a lot to learn from how leaders rise to the top of successful companies. As this series of stories shows, the paths to becoming a CEO may be different, but the people in that position(位置) share the qualities of commitment(义务), work ethic(道德) and a strong desire for building something new. And every CEO take risks along the way—putting your life savings on the line to start a software company or leaving a big business to be one of the first employees at a startup. I grew up in Minnesota, and learned how to be an entrepreneur(企业家)from my father, who has run a small business for almost 30 years. I went to Georgetown University and tried a lot of business activities in college with success. And I always had a dream job pattern(模式): to walk to work, work for myself and build something for consumers(顾客). I"m only 29, so it"s been a quick ride to CEO. Out of college, I worked for AOL as a product manager, then moved to Revolution Health and ran the consumer product team. In mid-2007 I left Revolution Health and started LivingSocial with several other workmates, where I became a CEO. Career advice: Don"t figure out where you want to work, or even what industry you"d like to work at. Figure out what makes you do so. What gives you a really big rush? Answer why you like things, not what you like doing. . . and then apply it to your work life. Also, just because you"re graduating, don"t stop learning. Read more books than you did in college. If you do, and they"re not, you"re really well-positioned to succeed in whatever you do. 小题1:What can we know from the first paragraph?A.The writer hasn"t achieved his childhood ambition. | B.The writer thinks there is some easy way to become a CEO. | C.The writer had an ambition of becoming a CEO in his childhood. | D.The writer believes success stories of CEOs can be beneficial(有益的) to everybody. | 小题2:According to the writer, successful CEOs should _____.
