It was filled with , knowing what the outcome of the event would have meant in her father’s a week before. When I saw that look on her face and looked at the running down the wall, I simply started . I am sure she thought I was , but then she must have realized that I was thinking, “It’s a good thing your isn’t here!” She started laughing with me, and we laughed until we . These were tears of joy and and were the first of many tears that we cried together. That was the day we knew that we were going to be okay. That was the day I really became a mom. Barefoot and dirty, the girl just sat and watched the people go by.She never tried to speak. Many people passed, but never did one person stop. The next day I decided to go back to the park, curious to see if the little girl would still be there.Right in the very spot as she was yesterday, she sat with the saddest look in her eyes. Today I was to make my own move and walk over to the little girl.As we all know,a park full of strange people is not a place for young children to play alone. As I began walking towards her,I could see the back of the little girl’s dress indicated a deformity(畸形).I smiled to let her know it was okay,I was there to help,to talk.I sat down beside her and opened with a simple “Hello”.I smiled and she shyly smiled back.We talked until darkness fell and the park was completely empty.I asked the girl why she was so sad.The little girl looked at me and with a sad face said,“Because I’m different.” I immediately said “That you are!” and smiled. The little girl acted even sadder. She said,“I know.” She looked at me and smiled.Slowly she stood to her feet, and said,“Really?” “Yes,dear, you’re like a little guardian angel sent to watch over all those people walking by.” She nodded her head “yes” and smiled, and with that she spread her wings and said with a twinkle in her eye,“I am.I’m your guardian angel.” I was speechless, sure I was seeing things. She said,“For once you thought of someone other than yourself,my job here is done.” Immediately I stood to my feet and said,“Wait,so why did no one stop to help an angel!?” She looked at me and smiled,“You’re the only one who could see me,and you believe it in your heart.”…and she was gone. And with that my life changed dramatically. So,when you think you’re all you have, remember, your angel is always watching over you.Mine is! 小题1:People just passed by the girl because _______.A.they pretended not to see her | B.she pretended to be poor | C.they never thought of helping her | D.they knew the author would help her | 小题2:Which word can’t be used to describe the author?A.Considerate. | B.Patient. | C.Helpful. | D.Powerful. | 小题3:Why was the author speechless?A.He was shocked. | B.He didn’t manage to help the girl. | C.He thought he was cheated. | D.He was in despair. | 小题4:Which of the following statements is TRUE?A.The author smiled because he saw the girl was shy. | B.The author had known that the girl was a real angel. | C.The author believed that an angel was always watching him. | D.The author decided to go back to the park because he was sure that the little girl would be there. | 小题5:What does “You’re all you have” mean?A.You are ugly. | B.You are alone. | C.You are strong. | D.You are rich. |

While watching the Olympics the other night,I came across an unbelievable sight. It was not a gold medal,or a world record broken, but a show of courage. The event was swimming and started with only three men on the blocks. For one reason or another, two of them false started,so they were disqualified. That left only one to compete. It would have been difficult enough, not having anyone to race against, even though the time on the clock is important. I watched the man dive off the block and knew right away that something was wrong.I’m not an expert swimmer, but I can tell a good dive from a poor one,and this was not exactly medal quality. When he resurfaced,it was evident that the man was not out for gold – his arms were waving in an attempt at freestyle. The crowd started to laugh.Clearly this man was not a medal competitor. I listened to the crowd begin to laugh at this poor man who was clearly having a hard time. Finally he made his turn to start back.It was pitiful. He made a few desperate strokes and you could tell he was worn out.But in those few awful strokes, the crowd had changed. No longer were they laughing, but beginning to cheer. Some even began to stand and shout “Come on,you can do it!” and he did. A clear minute past the average swimmer, this young man finally finished his race. The crowd went wild. You would have thought that he had won the gold, and he should have.Even though he recorded one of the slowest times in Olympic history, this man gave more heart than any of the other competitors. Just a short year ago,he had never even swum, let alone race. His country had been invited to Sydney. In a competition where athletes remove their silver medals feeling they have somehow been cheated out of gold,or when they act so proudly in front of their competitors,it is nice to watch an underdog. 小题1:From the passage we can learn that the young man .A.made his turn to start back pitifully | B.was skillful in freestyle in the game | C.swam faster than the average swimmer | D.was not capable enough to win the medal | 小题2:The crowd changed their attitudes because .A.they felt sorry for the young man | B.they were moved by the young man’s courage | C.they wanted to show their sympathy | D.they meant to please the young man | 小题3:According to the passage,“it is nice to watch an underdog” probably means .A.it’s amazing to watch an ordinary man challenging himself | B.it’s amusing to watch a man with awful swimming skills | C.it’s cheerful for athletes to act proudly before their competitors | D.it’s brave enough for some athletes to remove the silver medals | 小题4:Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?A.The event started with three men,two of whom were disqualified later. | B.The crowd started to laugh at the athlete’s arms waving in an attempt at freestyle. | C.The athlete,as well as the author,is an expert swimmer. | D.The swimming event is a show of courage rather than a fierce competition. | 小题5:What’s the best title for the passage?A.Compete for Gold! | B.Try again! | C.Break a Record! | D.Go for it! |

Coming home after working out for a whole day I had my purse lost.I it had slipped out my backpack as I was being .While it was probably very close to my apartment it still failed to come into and I had no but to cancel my debit cards. I’d had the purse for more than a decade as it was a Christmas present ,which was a bright, red leather, Cheeky Monkey purse ,so probably not entirelyfor a 36-year-old but I was very upset to have lost it! Everyone I spoke to I might get the purse back but the money and vouchers in it would very likely disappear.I had written off the of the purse and was even considering whether to move on and go “grown-up” when I was seeking a . I came home late the following night and my monkey purse was on my mat! I checked the contents and everything was including anything of cash value.I was astounded when I read the note which read, “I came across this last night. It was too dark to it then ,so I came back tonight.I got your from your license.Sorry.Iain.” Not only had this man returned my purse but he thought he me an apology for not bringing it back sooner! I have told almost all my acquaintances, who almost responded with a similar standard answer, “It restores your in human nature” and it lots of stories about similar experiences. There were no contact so I am unable to get in touch to say thank you to Iain, but I hope he will be of how grateful I am!
