Some will play with mobile devices, other will read something. Being still isn’t something we’re 39. This comes at a 40 : we lose that time for 41 , for observing and listening. We lose peace. And 42 yet: sometimes too much action is worse than no action at all. You can run around crazily, but get 43 done. Take a moment to think about 44 you spend your days. Are you constantly rushing around? Are you constantly reading and answering 45 checking on the news and the latest stream of information? Are you always 46 through your schedule? Is this how you want to spend your 47 ? If so, peace be with you. If not, take a moment to be 48 . Don’t think about what you have to do, or what you’ve done already. 49 be in the moment. Then after a minute or two of doing that, consider your life, and how you’d 50 it to be. See your life with less move anent, less doing, less rushing. See it with more stillness, more consideration, more 51 . Then be that vision. It’s pretty simple: all you have to do is sit still for a little bit each day. 52 you’re gotten used to that, try doing less each day. Breathe when you feel yourself moving too 53 . slow down. Be present. Find happiness now, in this moment, instead of 54 for it.

My wife passed away a few years ago, and I went through the worst time in my life. I even wanted to kill myself. Just for kids, I had to continue to live and work as small-town doctor at my medical clinic in Hawaii. My kids had gone to live on the mainland, and I was alone. Then they asked me to have a family trip. On our trip, we turned on the TV at the motel and saw the second plane crash into the World Trade Center. Seeing it falling down, I said to my kids: “I’m going to Afghanistan”. And a few weeks later, international Medical Corps sent me to set up 20 clinics in provinces where people had no health care. In these field clinics surrounded by frightening shoots or deadly bombs, we were eventually serving 27,000 patients a month in a very busy schedule. Tired and nervous, I gradually had a sense of achievement, a sense of purpose, and my depression went away. In the years to follow, I went to Indonesia after the tsunami, Pakistan after the earthquakes, Sudan after the civil warm and Iraq after more and more bombs. Each time after disasters one after another, hundreds of people were killed, wounded and many more had to flee. We once set up movable clinics in an area with 19,000 refugees, and it was supposed to hold 13,000 originally. Flu broke out, one of the biggest killers of kids in refugee camps, and it spread like wildfire. Water and food were also serious problems. “Adventures or not?” I often asked myself. When my wife passed away, I thought my life was done. But in reality, it was just getting started. At the end of her life, she went unconscious. I held her head in my hands and told her of all the places we would visit and the exciting adventures we would have. I think about the moment many times during my “adventures”. I didn’t know how predictive those words would be. But I know that she is still with me. 小题1:Where has the doctor been in the past few years?A.Some countries where he could set up clinics. | B.Some African countries where flu broke out. | C.The places where the earthquakes happened. | D.The places that the horrible disasters struck. | 小题2:How would the doctor describe his life after he had worked in Afghanistan? A.Tired and troublesome. | B.Busy and risky. | C.Meaningful and helpful | D.Frightening and depressing. | 小题3:The underlined word “refugees” means people_______________.A.who are robbed, killed, or wounded | B.who suffer from flu in movable clinics | C.who like to take adventures | D.who have lost homes because of disasters. | 小题4:Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A.the doctor’s wife encouraged him to work in foreign countries. | B.What the doctor said to his wife before her death became reality. | C.The doctor’s adventures made him understand the love of his wife. | D.With the true love of his wife, the doctor started to change his life. |

If you"re into sports, you"ve seen it happen. You"ve probably even experienced it: basketball players shaking hands after four quarters of knocking each other around, tennis players leaping over the net to shake hands with their opponents (对手) after a hard-fought match, soccer players exchanging sport shirts after an intense 90 minutes, even boxers touching gloves at the beginning of each round, then hugging each other after beating each other into a pulp for 12 rounds. It seems like competitors in every event, from spelling bees to hockey, behave this way. What"s going on? It"s all part of sportsmanship, a great tradition in sports and competition that means playing clean and handling both victory and defeat with grace, style, and dignity. What is sportsmanship? Sportsmanship is defined as: playing fair, following the rules of the game, respecting the judgment of referees and officials, treating opponents with respect. Some people define good sportsmanship as the "golden rule" of sports --- in other words, treating the people you play with and against as you"d like to be treated yourself. You demonstrate good sportsmanship when you show respect for yourself, your teammates, and your opponents, for the coaches on both sides, and for the referees, judges, and other officials. But sportsmanship isn"t just reserved for the people on the field. Cheerleaders and fans also need to be aware of how they behave during competition. Sportsmanship is a style and an attitude; and it can have a positive influence on everyone around you. Learning good sportsmanship means finding that the positive attitude learned on the field carries over into other areas of life. At school, for example, you"re able to appreciate the contributions made by classmates and know how to work as part of a team to complete a project. You may enjoy more success at work as well, because a big part of learning good sportsmanship is learning to be respectful of others, including customers and co-workers. 小题1:The author introduces the topic of the passage by___________.A.showing an interesting discussion | B.comparing several sport events | C.explaining some game rules | D.giving some specific examples | 小题2: When players play clean, ____________.A.they play in fresh air | B.they play in a skilled way | C.they play within the rules | D.they play without hurting each other | 小题3:The purpose of writing this passage is to ____________.A.advise readers to take some exercise | B.provide some basic sport knowledge | C.show the meaning of sportsmanship | D.expect players to compete actively |

What time is it?Most people are pretty accurate in their answer. And if you don’t know for sure, it’s very likely that you can find out. There may be a watch on your wrist; there may be a clock on the wall, desk, or computer screen; or maybe you’re riding in a car that has a clock in the dashboard . Even if you don’t have a timepiece of some sort nearby, your body keeps its own beat. Humans have an internal clock that regulates (调节) the beating of our heart, the peace of our breathing, the discharge (排出) of chemicals within our bloodstream, and many other bodily functions. Time is something from which we can’t escape. Even if we ignore it, it’s still going by, ticking away, second by second, minute by minute, hour by hour. So the main issue in using your time well is, “who’s in charge?” We can allow time to slip by and let it be our enemy. Or we can take control of it and make it our ally. By taking control of how you spend your time, you’ll increase your chances of becoming a more successful student. Perhaps more importantly, the better you are at managing the time you devote to your studies, the more time you will have to spend on your outside interests. The aim of time management is not to schedule every moment so we become slaves of a timetable that governs every waking moment of the day. Instead, the aim is to permit us to make informed choices as to how we use our time. Rather than letting the day go by, largely without our awareness, what we are going to discuss next can make us better able to control time for our own purposes. 小题1:The underlined word “ally” in Para.3 most likely means somebody or something that is____________.A.your slave and serves you | B.your supporter an helps you | C.under your control and obeys you | D.under your influence and follows you | 小题2:The author intends to tell us that time __________.A.could be regulated by a timepiece such as a clock or a watch | B.could be managed by the internal clock by human bodies | C.should be well managed for our own interest | D.should be saved for outside interests | 小题3:In the next part, the author would most probably discuss with you ________.A.how to keep up with the times | B.how to make up for lost time | C.how to have a good time | D.how to make good use of time |
