阅读理解      Clothes can make phone calls, play music, dial your pal"s number, keep you warm during cold
weather and operate your computer.
This is not a fantasy. A British company, called electrotexiles, has created a wide range of
clothes-clothes tha have minds of their own ! Scientists, working for the company, have invented a
kind of fabric that can be mixed with flexible electronic materials to create intelligent clothing. The
results are electronic garments.
If you think the weather has to be wired to different devices, think again. These designer clothes
are wirefree, soft to touch and washable! Like any electronic device, these hightech clothes have to
be powered. Currently, a tiny ninevolt battery serves the purpose. But the researchers hope that in the
near future the clothes will generate electricity by using body heat. These clothes are 100% shockproof,
they say.
The electrotexiles team has also created the world"s first cloth keyboard. These keyboard can be
sewn into your trousers or skirt. To use this device, you will have to sit down and tap on your lap!
These "laptap" devices are all set to take over laptop computers!
Another useful garment is the shirtcummobile phone. This handy invention enables drivers to chat
comfortably with others at the wheel! Other popular electronic wears include the denim (牛仔布)
jacket with flexible earphones sewn into the hoop and the electronic ski jacket with a builtin heater. The
ski jacket is also programmed to send signals to a satellite. This technology is known as global positioning
system and can be used to track lost skiers and wandering kids.

阅读理解     We"ve all met with something that slows us down, for example, the bump(颠簸)in the road, the
setback. You just have to keep in mind that a setback is only temporary and greater things lie ahead.
Therefore, keep moving forward, developing what you have, since you"ve already built a solid
foundation on which you can rely.
It is easy just to quit, give up and ignore the hard work you have put into something. But we believe
in the "two steps forward, one step back" philosophy (哲学). So how can you react when something
doesn"t turn out as you"ve expected it to be?
First,be objective. Step back and look at the situation. Is your setback really that significant,or will
it just require a little extra effort? Then, plan your next move. You can ask for help. Don"t be afraid or
ashamed to do this. Frequently, people are more than willing to give you support and advice. You don"t
have to be perfect; after all, nobody else is. Next, bounce back. Reevaluate the goals you have set for
yourself at the beginning and retool(改组) them as necessary. Goals should be realistic and specific,
but that doesn"t mean they can"t be flexible. Instead of looking at your project as a disaster or a failure,
view it with success. Concentrate on how great it will feel after it is finally done, after you have put your
all into it. Instead of focusing on a possible unsatisfactory performance one single time, take a moment
to sit back and reward yourself for all that you have accomplished.
Above all, don"t live with regrets. Success is never easy. It remains up to you whether you will give
up, or fight through the tough battles to earn whatever you want. Keep reaching for your goals and you
will achieve them. One small setback is nothing if you really want something and are willing to work for
it.

1. According to the passage, the philosophy"two steps forward, one step back" means that  ________
    when meeting with a setback.

A. we are supposed to quit and ignore the hard work
B. we"d better think it over before making a decision
C. we should stop to think before taking further action
D. we are expected to look at things in an allround way

2.  The underlined word "it" in Paragraph 3 refers to________.

A. a performance
B. a success
C. a goal
D. a project

3. When suffering a setback, the most important thing to do is________.

A. to keep moving forward to your goals
B. to depend on others" support and advice
C. to sit back and reward yourself for your success
D. to focus on a possible unsatisfactory performance

4. What is the passage mainly about?

A. How to avoid the bumps.
B. How to deal with the setbacks.
C. Different attitudes to the setbacks.
D. Different suggestions on your goals.

Shoppers who carefully plan their visit to the grocery store can save money on their grocery bills.
    1
Shoppers should visit the grocery store on a full stomach by scheduling their trip immediately after
a large meal. If that"s not possible, they should find something healthy to eat while preparing a grocery list.   2
Although having a list and sticking to it is the most important  factor  in  saving  money, shoppers
must prepare lists wisely in order to save.   3   Many special buys are announced through the local
newspapers, so buying the "grocery issue"is worth the investment(投资). However, it"s important to
remember that many newer, more expensive products first offered through coupons may not yield enough
savings for shoppers to give up the product they usually buy.
4    Once at the store, the shopper who wants to save money  should  follow  a  few  more  rules.
The shopper should not stay longer than necessary, because bills go up each minute the shopper is in the
store. So, setting a time limit and a cost limit can hold down the bill.    5   If the grocery list is a short one,
some shoppers choose to use the small handheld basket instead of the roomy grocery cart.

A. A carefully planned list should include in season    produce and any items on sale or discounted
     through  coupons (优惠券).
B. Of course, the shopper should stick strictly to the    shopping list and resist the temptation to buy
     additional items.
C. People who are full are less tired and more likely to    buy what they want.
D. Now that the shopper has completed the grocery list,it"s time to leave for the store.

阅读理解     Xiangzi - Lucky, in English - is appropriately named. His owner Qiu Hong, a sports marketer, lets the
dog enjoy two daily walks,a collection of imported American toys, $300 worth of monthly food and treats and his own sofa in her high-rise apartment. When Ms. Qiu feels bored, she takes Xiangzi out for a long
run in her car.
In a sense, Xiangzi is not just a dog, but a social phenomenon - and, perhaps, a marker of how quickly the Chinese nation is booming through its transformation from poor farmer to first-world citizen.Twenty
years ago, there were hardly any dogs in Beijing, but now there"re 900,000 registered dogs with countless
thousands of others unlicensed. How this came to be is, in some ways, the story of modern China as well.
"People used to be focused on improving their own lives, and they weren"t really acquainted with raising
dogs," said Ms. Qiu. "But with the improvement in the economy, people"s outlooks (观念) have
changed."
Having a dog can be a way to relieve the stress in people"s lives, but mostly Beijing dogs have, as in the West, become objects of affection - even devotion - by their owners. It"s easy to find dog-treat stores,
dog Web sites, dog social networks, dog swimming pools - even, for a time recently, a bring-your-dog
cinema and a bring-your-dog bar on Beijing"s downtown nightclub row.
The doglike devotion of pet owners here seems to have softened the city government heart. In 1994,
Beijing officials relaxed their no-dog policy to "severely restrict" dogs. In 2003,it was changed again to
allow anyone to own a dog, but to limit city dogs to no more than 35 centimeters in height. And nowadays the restriction seems to be loosely carried out.
As for sti-fried Pekingese (京叭狗) - well, that dog, too, may have seen its day. A formal suggestion
to ban the eating of dogs has been made by a law professor named Chang Jiwen, who considered himself "not so much a dog lover as a China lover". "With China developing so quickly, more people should know how to treat animals properly," he said in 3 telephone interview.1. What"s the main idea of the first paragraph? A.Xiang Zi is a clever dog.
