阅读理解     The neglected baby is crying alone. The young man, suffering from a lack of sleep, threatens with
suicide (自***). The marriage fails because of the husband"s obsessive (沉迷的) behaviour.
Is this just another story of social breakdown in the modern age?Not really. But they are the effects
of a real social problem--Internet Addiction (上瘾). Or, Internet Addiction disorder.
There have been few long-term studies of this very 21st century illness.
But the extension of the obsession is obvious from the popularity of one game alone:"Halo 2". It"s a
first-person shooter developed by Budgie Studios for the Xbox video game console.By early 2005,1
million players worldwide had clocked up an amazing 100 million hours on the game.
China has about 94 million regular Internet users.Of these, a survey suggested,4.4 million are
teenagers so addicted to it that they neglect everything else.
Video gamers who have gone too far display symptoms similar to those of alcohol and drug abusers.
"The real world meant nothing to me when I was fully involved with online games.I lost track of time,
space, hunger, pain, everything, " explained Liu Pinyi, a 19-year-old college dropout. She has had
treatment in Beijing for her addiction.
What makes it similar to drugs is that online game addicts also develop a chemical imbalance in the
brain.Gaming stimulates (刺激) the production of a chemical compound that produces euphoric or
pleasant feelings. When they"re away from the screen, their levels of chemicals produce this" high" drop.
And the addict suffers feelings of anxiety and headaches.
Experts say young people are attracted to video games partly because they are thrust right into the
centre of the action. This allows them to overcome a lack of confidence which people at that age can
often suffer from.
But, addiction is not the only problem.A Harvard University survey of 81 video games in 2004 found
that 98 percent contained violence for 36 percent of the total playing time.
China strengthened controls on computer games again this week, with the Ministry of Culture banning
nine online games. The ministry said it would also force game operators to technically filter out content that could cause addiction.1. By the first paragraph, the author means to________.A. warn some Internet users of their problems
B. show how serious the problems are if we use the Internet too much
C. direct the readers to the topic of the passage
D. show his worries about the problems in the modern age2. The example of "Halo 2" is given to show________.A. how popular online games are
B. online games are really harmful
C. game players are worldwide
D. game players are easy to be obsessive3. What would be the best title for the passage?A. Web Produces Addict Disorder
B. Web Brings About Serious Social Problems
C. The Internet and Its Disadvantages
D. Online Games and Their Harm4. Experts think that young people are attracted to video games because they________.A. forget everything else
B. lack of confidence in reality
C. have no other interests
D. want to avoid the real world5. The underlined phrase"filter out"in the last paragraph probably means________.A. clear away
B. cover up
C. reduce
D. control

完形填空。      For many people today, reading is no longer relaxation. To keep up their work they must
read letters,reports,trade publications,interoffice communications,not to mention newspapers
and magazines;a never-ending flood of words. In  1 a job or advancing in one,the ability to
read and comprehend 2 can mean the difference between success and failure.Yet the unfortunate
fact is that most of us are 3 readers. Most of us develop poor reading 4 at an early age,and never
get over them. The main deficiency(缺陷)5 in the actual stuff of language itself-words.Taken
individually, words have 6 meaning until they are strung together into phrases, sentences and
paragraphs.7 however, the untrained reader does not read groups of words. He laboriously reads
one word at a time, often regressing to 8 words or passages.Regression, the tendency to look back
over 9 you have just read,is a common bad habit in reading.Another habit which 10 down the
speed of reading is vocalization-sounding each word either orally or mentally as 11 reads.
To overcome these bad habits, some reading clinics use a device called an 12,which moves a
bar(or curtain)down the page at a predetermined speed. The bar is set at a slightly faster rate 13 the
reader finds comfortable,in order to "stretch" him.The accelerator forces the reader to read fast,14

阅读理解。     By far the most common difficulty in study is simple failure to get down to regular
concentrated work. This difficulty is much greater for those who do not work to a plan
and have no regular routine of study. Many students muddle along(无计划地进行),
doing a bit of this subject or that,as the mood takes them,or letting their set work pile
up until the last possible moment.
Few students work to a set timetable. They say that if they did work out a timetable
for themselves they would not keep to it,or would have to change it frequently, since they
can never predict(foresee)from one day to the next what their activities will be.
No doubt some students take much more kindly to a regular routine than others. There
are many who shy away from a self-controlled weekly timetable, and dislike being tied
down to a fixed program of work. Many able students state that they work in cycles. When
they become interested in a topic they work on it attentively for three or four days at a time.
On other days they avoid work completely. It has to be admitted that we do not fully
understand the motivation to work. Most people over 25 years of age have become used
to a work routine, and the majority of really productive workers set aside regular hours for
the more important areas of their work. The "tough-minded" school of workers doesn"t fully
accept the idea that good work can only be done naturally, under the influence of inspiration.
Those who believe that they need only work and study as the fit takes them have a mistaken
belief either in their own talent or in the value of "freedom".Freedom from control and discipline
(纪律)leads to unhappiness rather than to "self-expression" or "personality development".Our
society insists on regular habits, timekeeping and punctuality, and whether we like it or not,if we
mean to make our way in society,we have to meet its demands.1.The most widespread problem in applying oneself to study is _________.A.changing from one subject to another
B.the failure to keep to a set timetable of work
C.the unwillingness to follow a systematic plan
D.working on a subject only when one feels like it2.Which of the following is TRUE?A.Many students are not interested in using a self-controlled timetable.
B.Many students don"t like being told to study to a fixed timetable.
C.Most people over 25 years of age don"t work to set timetable.
D.Tough-minded people agree that good work is done naturally.3.The underlined part "as the fit takes them" in Paragraph 4 means ________.A.when they have the energy
B.when they are in the mood
C.when they feel fit
D.when they find conditions suitable4.A suitable title for the passage might be _________.A.Attitudes to Study
B.A Study Plan
C.The Difficulties of Studying
D.Study and Self-discipline

阅读理解。      Happier people are generally healthier people-not only mentally, but also physically.
So everyone tries to pursue happiness. What"s the pursuit of happiness? It means
practicing happiness regularly, making it a habit, and reprogramming our brains by creating
new emotional pathways.
Psychologists" studies have suggested that several factors contribute to our happiness.
It"s shown that only 10% of our ability for happiness depends upon external(外在的)
circumstances! 50% of our happiness level is dependant on genetic genes and 50% is
learned. Of the 50% learned, only 10% is determined by our circumstances. The other
40% is determined by our habitual thoughts, feeling, words, and actions. That 40% is
what we have power to change!
So how can we learn to be happy? It takes practice, practice, practice. Here are
three ways to get started.
Power of positive thinking: Our negative selftalk is so powerful; it overwhelms
(覆没)all other input. It therefore takes numerous positive experiences to overcome
a single negative one. For each negative thought, state three positive qualities that you
possess and start creating a new positive thought.
Open your heart and share the best of you with others: Happy people are more
giving, outgoing, flexible and creative. Does serving others make you happy or does being
happy better enable you to be of service? What difference does it make? Just reach out and
start giving!
Honor yourself: Be gentle and forgiving toward yourself. You need to unconditionally
love and approve of your innermost(内心的)being, which is the keystone that supports all
gateways toward personal growth, fulfillment, and happiness.
True happiness isn"t a short pleasure but a sense of wholeness and fulfillment. Happiness is our right as human beings and to pursue happiness is our duty.
