People have all sorts of thoughts that they wish to express. For many reasons, most people just keep their
thoughts to themselves and never share them with others. One from of self-expression is the written word.
For many people, it is easier to express their thoughts or emotions in writing. It is an especially popular way
of expressing feelings among shy people.
People"s thoughts are written down and then published so that others can read and enjoy them. There are
many reasons why newspapers and publishers actually publish people"s thoughts, but the main reason is to
give information.
With the introduction of newer technologies, new ways now exist for people to share their thoughts. Blogs
are just one way to share ideas more quickly. People can now let the world know their hopes, dreams and
day-to-day activities through a web log. Tools exist to make starting such a page quite simple. Better than that,
many advertiser driven sites allow customers to create their own web log for free!
The word "blog" comes from the words "web" and "log". Blogging is the term that is used to identify activities
relating to a blog, such as authoring it,updating (更新) and adding information. Articles in a blog are known as
posts, and the blogger is the person who puts articles on the blog.
The fastest growing method of communication today is the blog. It can bring down governments,
affect (影响) elections and can affect policies. Blogs can change the world by changing the opinions of
large numbers of people around the world.

themselves at once. It has saved lives by getting rapid word of illness, injury, or fire from distant places. By
joining with the lift to make possible the multi-story building or office building, it has made possible-for better
or worse-the modem city. By bringing about a great leap in the speed and ease with which information moves
from place to place, it has greatly sped up the rate of scientific and technological changes and growth in
industry. Beyond doubt it has seriously weakened, if not killed, the ancient art of letter writing It has made living
alone possible for persons with normal desires; by so doing, it has played a mile in one of the greatest social
changes of this century, the breakup of the multi generational house-hold. It has made the war more efficient
than before. Perhaps though not provably (可证实), it has prevented wars that might have arisen out of
international misunderstanding caused by written communication. Or perhaps-again not probably-by
magnifying and extending irrational (非理性的) personal disagreement based on voice contact, it has caused
wars. Certainly it has extended the scope (范围) of human conflicts, since it fairly spreads the useful knowledge
of scientists and the nonsense of the ignorant (无知者), the affection of the affectionate and the malice (恶意)
of the malicious. 1. What is the main idea of the passage? A. The telephone has helped to save people from illness and fire.
B. The telephone has helped to prevent wars and conflicts.
C. The telephone has made the modem city neither better nor worse.
D. The telephone has had positive as well as negative effects on us. 2. According to the passage,it is the telephone that _____. A. has made letter writing an art
B. has prevented wars by avoiding written communication
C. has made the world different from what it was
D. has caused wars by extending human conflicts 3. The author describes the telephone as fair because it _____. A. saves lives of people in distant places
B. enables people to live alone if they want to
C. spreads both love and ill will
D. replaces much written communication 4. The writer"s attitude towards the use of the telephone is _____. A. affectionate
B. disapproving
C. approving
D. neutral (中立的)

Of course, there have always been people who have looked for adventure (冒险)-those who have climbed the highest mountains or explored unknown parts of the world. Now, howev-er, there are people who look for a quick pleasure from a dangerous activity, which may only last a few minutes or even seconds.
I think bungee jumping is a good example of such an activity. Yet jump from a high place(maybe a bridge or a hot-air balloon (气球) 200 meters above the ground with an elastic rope ( 弹力绳 ) to your ankles (踝). You fall at up to 150 kilometers an hour until the rope stops you from hitting the ground. It is said that 2, 000, 000 people around the world have now tried bungee jump-ing. Most people think that other activities, such as jumping from the tall buildings and diving into the sea from the top of high rocks (岩石) are as dangerous as bungee jumping.
Why do people take part in such activities as these? Some scientists think it is because life in modern societies has become safe and boring. Now life has little excitement. They buy food in shops and there are doctors and hospitals to look after them if they are ill. The answer for some of these people is to look for danger in activities as bungee jumping. 1. How many people have now tried bungee jumping? A. Two hundred.
B. Two thousand.
C. Two million.
D. Two billion 2. People take part in dangerous sports because_____. A. people want to get excitement from them

People do not analyse every problem they meet. Sometimes they try to remember a solution from the last
time they had a   1   problem. They often accept the opinion or ideas of other people. Other times they begin
to act without   2  ; they try to find a solution by trial and error. However, when all of these methods   3  ,
the person with a problem has to start analysing. There are six   4   in analysing a problem.   5  , the person
must recognize that there is a problem. For example, Sam"s bicycle is broken, and he cannot ride it to class
as he usually does. Sam must   6   that there is a problem with his bicycle.
Next the person must   7   the problem. Before Sam can repair his bicycle, he must know why it does not
work. For example, he must   8   the parts that are wrong.
Now the person must look for   9   that will make the problem clearer and lead to  10  solutions. For
example, suppose Sam  11  that his bike does not work because there is something wrong with the brakes.
12 , he can look in his bicycle repair book and read about brakes, talk to his friends at the bike shop, or look
at his brakes carefully.
After  13  the problem, the person should have several suggestions for a possible solution. Take Sam as an
example  14 , his suggestions might be: tighten or loosen the brakes; buy new brakes and change the old ones.
In the end, one  15  seems to be the solution to the problem. Sometimes the  16  idea comes quite  17
because the thinker suddenly sees something in a  18  way. Sam, for example, suddenly sees there is a piece
of chewing gum stuck to a brake. He immediately hits on the solution to his problem: he must  19  the brake.
Finally the solution is  20 . Sam does it and finds his bicycle works perfectly. In short he has solved the
problem.
