Adventure in Africa by Connie Lee Berry Ages 7-9 85 pages Kid"s Fun Press December 2007 Adventure in Africa is written for children aged between 7 and 9 and may just be my favorite book in the Incredible Journey Series. In this book the two main characters Max and Sam are taken to an African Safari camp. Even with all the care taken by the staff to ensure the safety and comfort of the camp, things do go wrong and the two brothers find themselves rescuing an elephant and their tour guide, while braving the native wildlife and habitat of Africa. Adventure in Africa is one of four books in this series of fluent readers’ paperback travel adventure books by Connie Lee Berry. The font(字体) is quite large and there are roughly a dozen maps, images and pictures in the book, which will attract younger readers. As an extra attraction, the back cover of the book lists some activities for children to do. The animal photos were exciting, especially when the boys were able to ride an elephant! The pictures on the cover look like regular photos of family vacations. A large, interactive (互动的) companion website (www.ijbooks.com) allows readers to join in activities, contests and a club. The price of the book is only $3.95 (US) now,$1 lower than before, and Adventure in Africa is a bargain. Hurry up to order one. 60. The book Adventure in Africa is written for _________. A. all the readers B. young parents C. young kids D. high school students 61. From the first paragraph we get to know _________ of the book. A. the general ideaB. the design C. the author D. the price 62. The last word in the passage ‘bargain’ probably means ‘something _________. A. cheap B. expensive C. useful D. priceless 63. Computers are helpful because they offer a wide range of functions and services that are not available anywhere else. There are four main uses: word processing, Internet/ communications, digital video/ audio composition, and desktop publishing. The word processing capabilities of computers are amazing. They can automatically correct your spelling and grammar mistakes. The cutting and pasting features are incredibly simple and very useful for revision. Having a digital backup is an added benefit. All of these things help writers get the job done. With desktop publishing, you can create page layouts(页面布局)for entire books on your home computer. The Internet is one of the greatest inventions created by humans. It is a huge network of computers, each with the ability to contact any of the others. Vast amounts of information can be found on the Internet. It is the ultimate form of media, a combination of newspaper, radio and television. Using the Internet, any two people anywhere can communicate for free, whether it is by text or voice. New uses are being found for the Internet every day. Audio/ video editing and composition have been made much easier by computers. Cutting and pasting no longer involve using scissors and tape on large reels of film. It no longer costs thousands of dollars of equipment to make a film or to compose music. Now musicians can compose their own songs and publish them without having to obtain a record contract. Film-makers can produce work from their own homes. Anybody who owns a computer can now enter the field of media production. Internet/ communications, digital video and audio composition, and desktop publishing are features only offered on computers. Before coming to France, I always thought that French people wear formal clothes. But, when I arrived in Paris, I came to know why France could remain the lead in world fashion and Paris could attract so many designers from all over the world to come. On the boulevard of Champs-elysees, there are many fashion shops of famous brands, such as Chanel, Dior, Pierre Cardin. In daily life, however, most of Parisians never wear clothes like those on the super models. On the opposite, I found people in Paris often dress in very simple designs and usually in dark. Such situation doesn‘t affect French designers to create more and more new styles. But I would say people in Paris dress more formally than those in the rest of France. In other French cities, what people wear are usually casual dresses, such as T-shirts and jeans. French people act as the fashion leaders, but they accept other clothes styles as well. Montpellier, the city I live in, is in southern France near the Mediterranean Sea. Here are many immigrants(移民) from Algeria, Morocco and other African countries. The Arabian and African cultures are influential(有影响的) in this city. Therefore, you can find a lot of young people dress in the North African style. 1. France could remain the lead in world fashion and Paris could attract so many designers from all over the world because . A. French people never wear fashionable clothes B. French designers are creative C. French people accept fashionable clothes and other styles D. both B and C 2. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage? A. The majority of Parisians always wear formal clothes. B. Most of Parisians never wear fashionable clothes. C. Parisians usually wear casual dresses like T- shirts and jeans. D. Most Parisians often dress in simple designs and usually in dark. 3. The underlined part “boulevard of Champs-elysees”possibly is . A. a name of a famous street in Paris B. a name of a famous person in Paris C. a name of a famous city in France D. a name of a famous brand in France |
