It"s Really a Miracle (奇迹) Mr. Clarke works in New York and brought his family to China. They visited many places of interest and had a good time here. Before they left for Shanghai, the Clarkes climbed up the Great Wall. It was the greatest project about three thousand years ago. They took a lot of photos there and then they had a picnic under a big tree. Suddenly it began to rain and they hurried to the car. And when they returned to the hotel, they couldn"t find the bag in which their expensive camera was. They were all sorry for it:They could buy another camera but had no time to go to the Great Wall again. They could not miss the plane! That evening they didn"t have supper. Mr. Clarke hoped to make them happy and said, "Well. Let me tell you a story. An old man lived in a sixty-storey building. One day he fell down from it when he was cleaning the window. But he didn"t hurt himself. " "It was a miracle!" called out his children. "Why?" "Because he lived on the first floor!" They all began to laugh while two policemen with a bag came in. They said a Chinese boy found it under the big tree and he asked them to find out who lost it. "It"s really a miracle!" the Clarkes said happily. |

What will things be like in the year 2080? No one knows. But it is fun to have a guess at it. Let"s make this a story about you in the year 2080. Our story will be about one day only. You wake up at seven in the morning. You get dressed. Guess what the clothes are made of? Paper? Glass? Or something we don"t even know about today. The breakfast is no work to fix. Why? The food may be ready for eating. Now you start for work. But you don"t go by car. You step onto a moving sidewalk. It moves you along to a train station. There you take a train. How will it run? On one rail high over the street? Or will it ride in air? Three o"clock comes. Your work is done for the day. " I"ll call John , a friend of mine , " you say. John answers the picture phone. You and he can hear and see each other. "What shall we do this Saturday?" you ask. " Shall we put on our rocket belts and take a short trip? Or shall we go for a ride in a flying boat?" 阅读理解。 A friend of mine was fond of (喜欢) drawing a horse. He drew the horses very well, but he always began at the tail (尾巴). Now it is the western rule to begin at the head of the horse , that is why I was surprised. It struck me that it could not really make any dilference whether the artist begins at the head or the tail or the belly (肚子) or the foot of the house, if he really knows his business. And most great artists who really know their business do not follow other people"s rule. They make their own rules. Every one of them does his work in a way peculiar (奇特的) to himself, and the peculiarity means only that he finds it more easy to work in that way. Now the very same thing is true to literature (文学). And the question, "How shall I begin?" only means that you want to begin at the head instead of beginning at the tail or somewhere else. That is, you are not yet experienced (有经验的) enough to trust to your own powers. When you become more experienced you will never ask the question, and I think that you will often begin at the tail. that is to say, you will write the end of the story before you have even thought of the beginning. 1. A friend of the writer"s drew the horses _____. A. very well B. in the way of western rule C. in the way of his own rule D. all of the above 2. The writer was surprised because _____. A. the artist began to draw at the head of the horse B. the artist began to draw at the tail of the horse. C. the artist made his own rule D. the artist did not follow other people"s rule 3. You are not yet experienced because _____. A. you don"t know where to begin B. you want to begin at the head instead of beginning at the tail C. you always ask the question. D. you do not trust to your own powers 4. When you become more experienced you will _____. A. never ask the question B. often begin at the tail C. write the end of the story D. think of the beginning 5. The passage tells us _____. A.how to draw a horse B. how to write a story C. how to make our own rule D. to believe in our own powers |
