阅读理解。    For 99% of human history, people took their food from the world around them. They ate all that they
could find, and then moved on. Then around 10,000 years ago, about 1% of human history, people learned
to farm the land.
The kind of food we eat depends on which part of the world we live in, or which part of our country
we live in. For example, in the south of China they eat rice, but in the north they eat noodles. In European
countries near the sea, people eat a lot of fish. In central Europe, away from the sea, people don"t eat so
much fish, but they eat more meat. For example, in Germany and Poland, there are hundreds of different
kinds of sausages.
In North America, Australia, and Europe, people eat with knives and forks. In China, people eat with
chopsticks. In parts of India and the Middle East, people use their fingers to pick up food.
Nowadays it is possible to transport food easily from one part of the world to another. We can eat
whatever we like, at any time of the year. In Britain, bananas come from Africa; rice comes from India or
the U.S.A.; strawberries come from Chile or Spain. Food is a very big business. But people in poor countries
are still hungry while people in rich countries eat too much. 1. 10,000 years ago, people ______. [     ]
A. learned to farm the land
B. cooked different kinds of food
C. couldn"t find food around them

B. eat with knives and forks
C. use their fingers to pick up food
D. use bread to pick up food 3. ______ have many kinds of sausages. [     ]
A. Chile and Spain
B. America and Australia
C. China and Japan
D. Germany and Poland 4. Which of the following is NOT true? [     ]
A. What we eat depends on where we live.
B. Poor countries are still having food problems.
C. Rich countries don"t need food from others.
D. Nowadays we can eat whatever we like at any time of the year.

阅读理解。    The trouble with Christmas is that it comes just before the end of the year. Early in January, lots of bills
arrive. There I am, surrounded by presents, having spent all last year"s salary and most of this year"s, too,
when little brown envelopes start dropping through the letter box. The gas, the electricity, the telephone-lots
of pieces of paper, all asking for money.
I suppose the people who send these bills didn"t want to spoil my Christmas, so they didn"t send the bills
to me before 25th December. It"s really very kind of them, but I wish they"d send a letter to my bank manager
explaining what is going to happen immediately after the holiday. Then he would be ready for me when I go
to see him, and it would save me a difficult fifteen minutes while I explain why I need to borrow £ 200 and
he tells me why I can"t have it.
Next year it"s all going to be different. In my house, we are going to have Christmas in July, during our
summer holiday. So next December I"ll have enough money in the bank to pay all the bills. It"s a wonderful
idea but the only problem is that my wife and children don"t seem to like it very much.. 1. The people the writer should pay ______. [     ]
A. are kind to him
B. want to spoil his Christmas
C. want to say "Merry Christmas" to him
D. cost him more money than he can pay by sending him a lot of bills 2. At the end of the year, the writer is usually ______. [     ]
A. worried because of so many bills
B. having a sunny day
C. worried about how to spend his holiday
D. visiting his friends abroad 3. The passage tells that ______. [     ]

任务型阅读。     In America, when people say "man"s best friend", they don"t mean another person. Instead, they are talking
about a lovely animal: a dog! These words show the friendship between people and animals. Dogs and other pets
can give happiness to people"s life. ① Some people think of their pets as their children. A few even leave all their
money to their pets when they die!
Animals can help people, too. ② People can teach dogs to become the "eyes" for a blind person or "ears"
for a deaf person
. Because of that, animals are brought into hospitals for "visits."
Americans hold "Be kind to Animals Week" the fist week of May. Pet shows are held during the week. Even
if you don"t live in America, you, too, can do this. How? First, think about how animals make your life richer. If
you have a pet, take more time this week to play with it. Remember to give it delicious food. Also, be sure to
keep your pet from those unwanted babies.
If you don"t have a pet, be kind to animals around you. For example, if you see a street dog, don"t kick it or
throw things at it. Instead, just leave it alone, or better yet, make friends with it. If others around you do bad
things to an animal, try to stop them. ③ As people, we must protect animals who can"t speak for themselves. 1. 根据①处完成下面的句子(每空一词)。
Some people ________ their pets ________ their children.
2. 根据②处完成下面的句子(每空一词)。
Dogs can ________  ________ to become the "eyes" for a blind person or "ears" for a deaf person.
3. 将③处的句子翻译成汉语。
