阅读理解。     You may have this question:where are we getting all the materials for our products? Two words-natural resources  (资源). Natural resources are items we find in the environment. There are two types of natural
resources:renewable   (可再生的) and nonrenewable resources.
Renewable resources are those items that we can get back if weuse them right. For example, when we cut down trees for paper,we can replant new ones. Of course, if we cut down too many trees, destroy the soil and do not replant enough new trees, then we will lose this important natural resource.
Non-renewable resources must be mined (开采) from the earth. If we start using non-renewable
resources wrongly, then we"re going to run out ofthem.
Remember, God gives us natural resources to use, not to abuse  (滥用)1. Where can we fmd naturalresources?
A. In the lab.
B. At home.

C. Four
D. Five.
3. ______ are that we can get back ifwe use them right.
A. All the materials

4. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. Paper is renewable, so we can waste it.
B. We can cut aown too many trees and can"t replant them, because they"re renewable resources.
C. We need to reduce(减少) our use of natural resources.

If a person is bored, he won"t look at the person who is talking to him. He will find other things to do. He may also keep looking at his watch or a clock. If a person
is open to you, his arms and legs will not be crossed (交叉的). And if a person is relaxed, you will know it by looking at his body, even his breathing(呼吸) is slower.

Girls wore grey skirts and white shirts, boys wore grey trousers, and everyone wore the school tie.
Some of Sam"s lessons were a bit strange for me. We were reading Shakespeare in the English lesson,
and there were quite some old words like "thou" and "thee" to mean "you". In history we studied 20th
Century China. It was strange hearing a foreign side of history-and hearing English people trying to say
all our Chinese names!
Classes were also a lot more relaxed than in China. Teachers were called "sir" or "miss", everyone
shouted answers and raised their hands in classes. It was more like a debate than a class. A bell rang
at the end of each lesson and everyone jumped up to go to the next class.
At break we bought potato chips and cookies in the dining room. Lunch was later than in China-at
1 o"clock. We had big plates of pie with carrots. For dessert there was hot sweet rice called rice
pudding. It was good that I"d had an excellent lunch, because at Sam"s school Monday afternoons are
taken up with sports.
I played my first game of netball-a bit like basketball, but with some differences. Luckily I"d had a
quick look in the rule book before I tried to join in the game.

The rockets take astronauts and man-made satellites into space. The satellites are used for
communication, weather monitoring and research. But how do satellites stay up without falling down?
There are two opposite forces (力量) acting on the satellite. One of them is the force of gravitation
(地心引力), which tries to pull the satellite towards the earth. The other force is created by the rotation (旋转) of the satellite around the earth. This force tries to take the satellite away from the earth. With
these two forces, the satellite goes round and round. The gravitational pull of the earth (the force which
pulls everything towards the ground) is like a rope which keeps the satellite from flying away.
Everything that goes up has to come down. It is only a matter of time before a satellite comes back
to the earth. As time goes by, the satellite loses its speed, which makes the gravitational pull stronger
than the force pulling it away. This makes the satellite crash (坠落) down to the earth.
1. Which of the following uses of satellites is NOT mentioned?
A. communication
B. monitoring the weather condition
C. doing some research
D. taking pictures
2. The force that pulls the satellite towards the earth is created by ________.
A. the earth
B. the satellite itself
C. the rotation of the satellite
D. the rope
3. Why can"t the satellites fly away?
A. Because of the force from the earth.
B. Because the satellite is too big.
C. Because of the force created by the rotation of the satellite around the earth.
D. Because people on earth have made ropes to tie the satellites tightly.
4. The satellite will finally crashes down to the earth ________.
A. when it flies faster
B. when its speed slows down
C. when people cut the rope
D. when there is no electricity in it
5. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. There are four forces acting on the satellite.
B. The force of gravitation makes the satellite go round and round.
C. As time goes by, the satellite will finally fall down.
D. The satellite will stay in space forever.
