阅读下面的短文,然后以约 30 个词概括故事的主要内容。 Who says honesty is dead? Last Tuesday morning Alan Reed, a student, was at the bank. He asked to take out $ 50 but the bank clerk mistakenly gave him five twenties instead of five tens. For a few seconds he wondered what to do. Should he give the extra money back? Keep it? If he kept it, he could buy several new books, or he could take his friend Alice to a fancy dinner. Probably no one would ever notice. Besides, this would make up for all the times he’d been overcharged. But then he looked at the clerk. She was a middle-aged woman with a sweet face, and she reminded him of his mother. She had been nice to him, and she looked pressured in her work. Then it occurred to him that the lady would probably get in trouble. Worst of all, Alan felt, he would probably feel guilty about keeping the extra cash. So Alan gave back the money. The bank clerk was so impressed that someone was honest enough to return money not rightfully his that she contacted the newspaper. So there you have it. What would you have done if you’d been in Alan’s position? |

阅读表达。阅读下面的材料回答后面的五个小题。(每小题3分,满分15分) Joe Templer should have known better. After all, he works for a large auto insurance company. It won"t hurt to leave the key in the truck this once, he thought, as he filled his gas tank at a self service gas station. But moments later, as he was paying the money, he saw the truck being driven away. In 1987, 1.6 million motor vehicles were stolen in the United States one every 20 seconds. If _________________, experts predict annual vehicle thefts could exceed two million by the end of the decade. Vehicle theft is a common phenomenon, which has a direct impact on over four million victims a year. The cost is astonishing. Many police officials blame professional thieves for the high volume of the thefts. It is a major money maker for organized crime. Typically, stolen cars are taken to pieces and the parts sold to individuals. But as many as 200,000 cars are smuggled out of the country every year. Most go to Latin America, the Middle East and Europe. Only about 15 percent car thefts result in an arrest, because few police departments routinely conduct in depth auto investigations. When thieves are arrested, judges will often sentence them to probation(缓刑), not immediately put them in prison because the prisons are overcrowded with violent criminals. One exception is a Michigan program that assigns 92 police officers to work full time on the state"s 65,000 car theft cases a year. Since 1986, when the effort began, the state"s auto theft rate has fallen from second in the nation to ninth. 小题1:What is the best title of the passage? Read the following passage carefully. Then answer the questions or complete the statements in the fewest possible words. The library is one of the most popular places at a Western university. Students turn to it for research, conversations about class, and many other services. Compared with Chinese libraries, college libraries in the US and UK tend to offer more resources. A graduate student at Yale University can borrow as many as 225 books at a time. In addition to borrowing books, there are online and electronic resources. These include a database (数据库) search of popular and academic material, such as LexisNexis Academic, which offers items from newspapers and magazines. Although books and articles are the items that students ask for most frequently, some libraries provide video recordings. At some schools, teachers and tutors put electronic copies of their teaching PPTs on the library Web to give easier access for students. Another useful service in Western college libraries is the Interlibrary Loan. This allows a student at one school to borrow books from another school. The loan request is made through the student’s college library, which gets the book, gives it to the user, and arranges for its return. Technology has made libraries more attractive. Some universities have services for students to send messages through the computer. Earlier this year, Harvard University introduced a new Scan and Deliver service, allowing students to make requests for parts of books and articles. Requests made through the system are handled by library staff. The student receives an e-mail with an Internet link to the scanned pages. The service is free and all material comes within four days. It used to be that libraries didn’t allow food or drinks. But that rule is changing and many of them now contain a café so students can spend as much time as they want in the library. Additionally, some US university libraries are now all-night affairs, or have at least one study room open all night.
