One Sunday morning, when I was driving along a road, I saw something I couldn’t
题型:不详难度:来源:
One Sunday morning, when I was driving along a road, I saw something I couldn’t believe. A little girl, who was less than two years old, was pushing her stroller (婴儿车) across the road. The traffic was not heavy that morning. I stopped my car at once and ran toward her. This little girl knew enough to run from a stranger. I tried to catch her in order that I could get her out of the road. Suddenly her father came running down a hill across the road from where I had parked my car. He ran right to her and caught her up, saying “bad girl” to her. I picked up the stroller and gave it to him. The father grabbed the stroller and walked toward where he came from without a word. I went back and sat in my car for a few minutes with my son. My hands were shaking and tears were about to run out of my eyes. “Do you feel cold, Mom?” asked my son. I just shook my head. After this happened, I thought about how thankful I am. Even though the father didn’t say “Thank you”, I feel that I did something good. Doing something for someone else is pleasing, even when it’s only a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I didn’t really “save” her, but I feel like it was important that I happened to be there. It is sad that I was the only one who stopped. It really made me a little disappointed that no one else stopped to help. 小题1: The little girl ran away from the author because _____.A.she wanted to look for her father | B.she wanted to stay on the road | C.she needed to catch her stroller | D.she didn’t know the author at all | 小题2:When the author saw the little girl, _____.A.there weren’t many cars on the road | B.the girl feared to go across the road | C.the girl had lost her way | D.she was driving to work in a hurry | 小题3: What can we learn from the passage?A.The author shared her experience with her son. | B.The author felt sad that no one else helped the girl. | C.The girl’s father didn’t like the girl at all. | D.The girl’s father had wanted to thank the author. | 小题4:Why were the author’s hands shaking?A.Because the weather was very cold at that time. | B.Because she failed to be understood by the girl’s father. | C.Because she was not feeling well. | D.Because she was too excited to keep calm. |

John von Neumann was the oldest of 3 children of an banker, and his speed of learning new ideas and solving problems stood out early. At 17, his father tired to persuade him not to become a mathematician because he may lead a poor life being a mathematician, and so von Neumann agreed to study chemistry as well. In 1926, at 23, he received a degree in chemical engineering and a Ph.D. in mathematics. From then on, mathematics provided well enough for him, and he never had to turn to chemistry. In 1930, von Neumann visited Princeton University for a year and then became a professor there. His first book was published in 1932. In 1933, the Institute for Advanced Study was formed, and he became one of the 6 full-time people in the School of Mathematics(Einstein was one of the others) World War Ⅱ hugely changed von Neumann"s areas of interest. Until 1940 he had been a great pure mathematician. During and after the war, he became one of the best mathematicians who put mathematics theories into practice. During the last part of the war he became interested in computing machines and made several fundamental contributions After the war, von Neumann continued his work with computers, and was generally very active in government service. He received many awards, was president of the American Mathematical Society and was a member of the Atomic Energy Commission. He died in 1957 of cancer. Von Neumann made several great contributions and any one of them would have been enough to earn him a firm place in history. He will be remembered as one of the greatest minds of the 20th century. Von Neumann really was a legend in his own time, and there are a number of stories about him. His driving ability is a part of his legend. Suddenly one of them stepped in my path." 小题1:According to the text, von Neumann"s father believed that _____________.A.a mathematician couldn"t earn a lot of money | B.a mathematician needed a good memory | C.von Neumann had the ability to learn two subjects at the same time | D.von Neumann had the gift for solving problems at a high speed. | 小题2:von Neumann published his first book at the age of _________________小题3:How did World War Ⅱ affect John von Neumann?A.He realized the importance of engineering | B.He began to research how to put mathematics into practice. | C.He left college and served at the government department. | D.He lost interest in chemistry. | 小题4:Which of the following is true of Von Neumann?A.He had three children | B.He died from an accident. | C.He received many rewards in his life | D.He and Einstein were classmates in Princeton University. | 小题5:From the last paragraph, we can infer John von Neumann was _____________.A.calm | B.brave | C.intelligent | D.humorous |

To my , the old woman was a neighbor of the man who was helping me. “Jeff insisted on stopping when he saw you with the tire. ”“I am grateful for his help, ” I said. “Me, too!” she said with a smile. He helped drive her to see her husband twice a week in a nursing home. She also said that he at the church and tutored disadvantaged students. The rain stopped and Jeff and I changed the tire. I tried to offer him money and of course he it. It was shameful that I judged people by the way they . As we shook hands I began to apologize for my . He said, ‘‘I experience that same often.
