阅读短文,根据所读内容在表中的空格处填上适当的单词或短语,每空不超过3个单词。      For many the idea of one day having your dream home is not buying a bigger home, but a home that you
have built by yourself. A house that is unique and fit for your tastes and your lifestyle. It sounds great but
where do you begin to design your dream home? Here is a quick guide that can help you make your dreams
come true.
The first step is to get an idea of what type of home you want. You can get inspiration from others. Drive
around to neighborhoods that have the styles of homes that you like and take pictures. You can also cut out
pictures from magazines, newspapers, or print-out pictures you find on the Internet.
The next step will be to make two lists of items for yourself. The first list will be those items or features
that you feel your new home must have, such as granite (花岗岩) counter tops or a hot water heater. The
second list will be those items or features that are on your wish list like a fireplace or slate (石板) floors.
At this point you will probably have a good idea what your dream home will look like, so you will need to
seek some professional help. You will need to hire an architect to put your ideas down on paper. You may
need to interview a few different architects to find one that you are comfortable with. Make sure whomever
you choose to make the final drawings has a full understanding of local building codes and zoning by-laws
(地区议事程序).In any case your final plan will need to be approved by the city and a building permit must
be obtained before any construction can begin. It is time to look for a contractor (承包人). Whichever way
you do it, be sure you are comfortable with your contractor and you have gotten references from his past
clients (客户). Remember the more homework you do in the beginning, the more enjoyable the process will be.                                                            Title: 1_________

yourself. There are a couple of suggestions you would like to know before you are out for dating.
Do not go out for dating with somebody whom you have seen only a few times and not known much
about.
Before leaving for a date, know the exact plans for the evening and make sure a parent or a friend knows
these plans and what time to expect your home. Let your date know that you are expected to call or tell that
person when you get in.
Similarly, if you leave party with someone you do not know well, make sure you tell another person you
are leaving and with whom. Ask a friend to call and make sure you arrive home safely.
No matter how good the person appears to you, trust your inner instincts (直觉). If a situation makes
you uncomfortable, try to stay calm and think of a way to remove yourself from the situation without letting
your date realize what is going on in your mind.
Be aware of your decreased ability to react under the influence of alcohol or drugs and keep yourself in
control when out for a date.
Always stay firm, straightforward and clear in your relationships, thoughts, decisions and judgments.
Never let a doubt come to your mind or face when out for dating. If you are firm and clear in your
communication, your date will always be careful in dealing with you.
You should think ahead about ways to be safe if you are in a dangerous or potentially (潜在) dangerous
relationship. Adults, like parents, teachers, counselors, can be trusted in such cases. 1. Which of the following is forbidden when dating according to the passage? A. Knowing the plan for the evening.
B. Telling your parents about the date.
C. Going out for dating with a stranger.
D. Telling the person you date that your parents know about the date. 2. The underlined word "date" in the third paragraph might mean _____. A. a time
B. a plan
C. a person
D. a place 3. If you feel uncomfortable,you should _____. A. call your parents
B. leave as soon as possible
C. speak out what you are thinking
D. trust the person you"re dating with 4. The best title for this passage might be _____. A. Be Careful With Your Friends

the thinnest. Now, however, fully recovered, I can reflect (反思) back and realize that my wishes were more
complex (复杂) than fitting into size five pants. Many of my subconscious (意识) emotions were related to
my relationship with my father. As I was growing up,his work always came first. Sometimes I would not
see him for up to two weeks. Not only did he devote his whole self to his work, but he expected me to do
the same ("You cannot get anywhere unless You go to the best universities"). Though, consciously, I never
felt pressure to please him, I began dieting after the first time he told me I looked fat.
At the time, all I knew was that I had to be skinny-skinnier than anyone else. Every month my father went
to Europe for a week or so and on the days he left, sorrow and emptiness consumed (折磨) me: Daddy was
leaving. Then, I tuned to focus on a mysterious weakness-a helpless childlike emotion that came from starving.
I liked to know that I needed to be taken care of; maybe Daddy would take care of me.
Now two years later and thirty-eight pounds heavier, I have come to realize that I cannot change my
father"s inability to express his feelings. Instead, I must accept myself. I know that I am a valuable person
who struggle to achieve and accomplish. But I cannot struggle only for others. By starving, I attempted to
gain pride in myself by getting my father"s approval (赞许) or acknowledgement of my value as a person.
But the primary approval must come from me, and I feel safe now that I can live with that knowledge safely
locked in my mind. 1. What is the "anorexia nervosa" as mentioned in the first paragraph? A. It describes a situation of feeling unsafe.
B. It is an inability to express one"s feelings.
C. It refers to people who are emotionally weak.
D. It is an illness that makes one want to stop eating. 2. Why did the writer suffer from anorexia nervosa? A. She was told by her father to take care of herself.
B. She wanted to go to the best university.
C. She wanted her father"s attention.
D. She grew up in a poor family. 3. Which of the following statements is true about the writer?A. She has problems controlling her tempers.
B. She is proud of herself for working hard to succeed.
C. She has had great confidence in herself since childhood.
D. She has changed her father"s way of expressing himself. 4. What"s the writer"s purpose of writing this passage? A. T0blameherfather.
B. To report a case of child abuse (虐待).
C. To reflec a stage of growing up.
D. To teach people how to lose weight.

I suffer from the most serious case of avoidance (回避反应症).
The thing is this: when I do set out to clean and re-organize my books, which seldom happens, I place
myself into a really bad situation. No sooner do I take a title from the shelf, blow off the dust, and wipe down
the cover than I find myself sitting on the floor with legs crossed and my back against the wall. Pretty soon
books get piled up on my legs as I am reunited with old friends.
It is as if these books have voices, and each wants to say its piece. "Remember me? I was given to you
when you went into the Navy, so that you would never lack for companionship," one whispers. Another says,
"I was your first book of poems, given to you before you learned to love poetry." And a third, "I was the book
that made history so attractive to you."
Perhaps the greatest pleasure of re-organizing my books are the surprises-or better said, reunions-that
occur. During my latest book-cleaning adventure, I found one that had fallen behind the shelf:"Tales of Edgar
Allan Poe." Not an unusual title, but the words written on the first page made it very special:"With Love from
Mom and Dad, Christmas 1965." What"s this? A book on the physics of lasers (激光). It is filled with
mathematical statements, and I had bought it at a library sale when I was 12, not long after the laser had been
invented. I couldn"t understand a bit of it, but I did learn what "laser" meant.
What I end up with when I empty my bookshelves is a cross-section (横剖面) of my personal history. It"s
like a road cut where one sees all the layers of rock going back through time to the beginning of the simplest
life forms. The books I"ve read-and kept-are not just old friends. They are my résumé. 1. What could be said about the author? A. He is too busy to tidy up his bookshelves.
B. He considers his books treasured possessions.
C. He has made a lot of notes in his books.
D. He is a lover of science books.2. By saying that his books have voices, the author means _____. A. they bring back happy memories
B. they are recorded in human voice
C. they say a lot about human history
D. they offer good topics for discussion 3. What does the author enjoy most from re-organizing his books? A. Finding some missing books.
B. Putting books in good order.
C. Learning something new from the books.
D. Rediscovering interesting stories behind some books. 4. The underlined word "résumé" in the last paragraph probably means _____. A. personal history
B. precious notes
C. good companion
D. simple life forms

you"re dead."
Dad, in a hurry to get home before dark so he could go for a run, had forgotten to wear his safety belt-a
mistake 75% of the US population make every day. The big question is why.
There have been many myths (谬论) about safety belts ever since their first appearance m cars some
forty years ago. The following are three of the most common.
Myth Number One: It"s best to be "thrown clear" of a serious accident.
Truth: Sorry, but any accident serious enough to "throw you clear" is also going to be serious enough
to give you a very bad landing. And chances are that you"ll have traveled through a wind-shield (挡风玻璃)
or door to do it. Studies show that chances of dying after a car accident are twenty-five times greater in
cases where people are "thrown clear".
Myth Number Two: Safety belts "trap" people in cars that are burning or sinking in water.
Truth: Sorry again but studies show that people knocked unconscious (昏迷) due to not wearing safety
belts have a greater chance of dying in these accidents. People wearing safety belts are usually protected to
the point of having a clear head to free themselves from such dangerous situations, not to be trapped in them.
Myth Number Three: Safety belts aren"t needed at speeds of less than 30 miles per hour.
Truth: When two cars traveling at 30 mph hit each other, an unbelted driver would meet the windshield
with a force equal to diving head first into the ground from a height of 10 meters. 1. Why did Elizabeth say to her father "But, Dad, you can"t be healthy if you"re dead"? A. He was driving at great speed.
B. He didn"t have his safety belt on.
C. He was running across the street.
D. He didn"t take his medicine on time. 2. The reason why Father was in a hurry to get home was that he _____. A. wasn"t feeling very well
B. hated to drive in the dark
C. wanted to take some exercise
D. didn"t want to be caught by the police 3. According to the text, to be "thrown clear" of a serious accident is very dangerous because you _____. A. may get seriously hurt being thrown out of the car
B. may be knocked down by other cars
C. may find it impossible to get away from the seat
D. may get caught in the car door 5. What is the advice given in the text? A. Never drive faster than 30 miles an hour.
B. Never forget to wear a safety belt while driving.
C. Try your best to save yourself in a car accident.
D. Drive slowly while you"re not wearing a safety belt.
