第三部分 阅读理解 (共15小题,每题2分,满分30分) Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways. When people cheat, it’s not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who were the true winners of a game. Many people like the action of cheating. It makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesn’t solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won’t help on the next test --- unless the person cheats again. Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them. The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they are not really earning that good grade. And, if they get caught cheating, they will be in trouble at school, and maybe at home, too. Some kids cheat because they’re busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying. Other kids might feel like they can’t pass the test without cheating. Even when there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating, cheating isn’t a good idea. If you were sick or upset about something the night before and couldn’t study, it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you don’t have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school. A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions(解决办法) together. Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating. 56.The author thinks that when kids cheat in class, _______. A.it is unfair to other people B.it does harm to their heath C.teachers should punish them D.teachers shouldn’t stop them at once 57.Some students like cheating mainly because_________. A.the material in the test is very difficult B.they want to do better than the others C.cheating can make hard things seem very easy D.they have little time to study their lessons 58.The fourth paragraph mainly tells us______. A.cheating isn’t a good idea B.why kids cheat in the test C.some kids can’t pass the test without cheating D.some kids don’t spend the time studying 59.We can learn from the passage______. A.cheaters are often thought highly of B.people show no respect for those who cheat C.parents whose kids cheat are often in trouble D.kids cheat in the test because of swim practice 60.In the passage those cheaters are advised to_______. A.spend more time on school than on sports B.find good solutions instead of cheating C.try hard to be intelligent rather than lazy D.ask their classmates for good methods of study |

It could happen to you Many people think there is no need to take special care over home safety. “I’ all right, I’m insured(投保).” Maybe-----if you’re fully insured. Even then you can never recover the value you place upon your possessions, because you can’t insure against the suffering of mind that we all feel if our homes are torn apart by some strangers, our windows and doors broken, or our possessions ruined. “It won’t happen to me.” Won’t it? A house is broken into every three minutes of the day. Loss of all kinds, including cars and things stolen from cars, happens every 35 seconds. “I’ve nothing worth stealing.” You may think not. But in fact everyone has something worth a thief’s attention. And we all have things of personal value, even if they’re worth little or nothing inn hard cash. “I’m only a tenant(房客) here.” The thieves don’t care whether you’re a tenant or an owner. You’re just as weak either way. Have a word with the owner if you think extra safety fittings are necessary. “They all get in anyway.” Most thieves are on the lookout for easy pickings. They are soon discouraged by houses they can’t get into quickly and easily. So do pay special attention. “This booklet(小册子) will help you…” It’s based on the practical experience of police forces throughout the country. Most of the suggestions will cost you only a few minutes and thought. A few may cost some expense, but this is small compared with the loss and sadness you might otherwise suffer. If you are in any doubt, ask for free advice from the crime Prevention Office at your local police station. 60. The passage is mainly about _____. A. how to protect your home B. how to take special care of ourselves C. how to hire a safe house in the country D. how to escape being caught 61. What does the sentence “A few may cost some expense” in the last two paragraphs mean? A. You should pay for some of the suggestions. B. Following the suggestions means you will have to spend some money on home protection. C. some people are willing to pay for the suggestions. D. Some of the suggestions are expensive. 62. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage? A. It’s impossible to prevent a house from being broken into. B. Few people would like to get advice from the local police station. C. Some thieves are only interested in stealing things from houses protected well. D. People should care more about home safety. 63. This passage is probably a (an) _____. A. advertisement for selling safely-guarded houses B. article on crime C. booklet from the Crime Prevention Office D. suggestion from insurance companies |
For photographers lacking training, experience and even the ability to click a shutter button, they produce remarkable pictures. Under the sea, deep in the woods and high in the sky, furry, feathery and leathery-skinned creatures are opening up vistas(远景)by taking cameras where no human can go. This is the world of animal-borne imagine celebrated last month at a conference sponsored(supported) by the National Geographic Society for the 20th anniversary of its Crittercam, the device that started it all. Since its debut(首次公开露面)in 1987 on the back of a turtle, the Crittercam and similar devices developed by others have grown smaller and more powerful. “It’s more than just a camera now,” said Greg Marshall, the marine biologist and now filmmaker who invented the Crittercam. “We are now including more instruments to gather more data while at the same time reducing everything in size.” The idea of attaching video cameras to animals came to Mr. Marshall in 1986 on a dive off Belize when a shark apporached him. When the animal quickly turned away, he noticed a shark with a sucker fish on its belly. He came up with the idea that putting a camera in place of the sucker fish would allow people to witness the shark’s behavior without disturbing it. Crittercams have been attached to sharks, sea lions and other marine animals, and, more recently, to land animals. Birds are a new addition, Mr. Marshall said. Dr. Christian Rutz of Oxford recently reported on tiny cameras called feathercams that monitor the crows in the South Pacific. It has discovered that crows are smarter than anyone knew they not only use twigs(嫩枝)and grass stems as tools to root out food, but they also save their favorite tools to use again. Tracey L. Rogers, director of the Australian Marine Mammal Research Center in Sydney, said crittercam was a powerful tool in her work with leopard seals(豹斑海豹)in Antarctica. “In studying animals,” Dr. Rogers said at the meeting, “you want to see how our animal models align(与……一致)with reality. With a camera, you actually see what they do. You don’t have to guess.” 64.What’s the text mainly about? A. The advantages of crittercam. B. The development of Crittercams in the past 20 years. C. How crittercam was invented. D. How crittercam works. 65.What inspired Marshall to invent crittercam? A. The sight of sucker fish clinging to a shark on a dive. B. The thought of how to photograph animals better. C. Noticing a shark eating a sucker fish on a dive. D. Seeing a shark with a camera on its belly on a dive. 66.According to Dr. Rogers, crittercam ____. A. can clear up all your doubts about animals B. is the most powerful tool in studying animals C. enabled her to observe the crows in the South Pacific closely D. helped a lot with her research on leopard seals in Antarctica 67.All of the following are improvements of crittercams EXCEPT that ____. A. the size is becoming smaller B. more instruments are involved to gather more data C. they allow researchers to see where and how animals live D. they are able to be applied to smaller animals such as birds |
