AN "agony aunt" is a person who gives advice as part of a magazine or newspaper's regular features.In the past,this person was usualy an older woman,which explains the title of "aunt".
An"agony aunt"answer reader's question about personal problems.In many cases,the probiems,as well as the answers,are not real,but are wrtten in the newspaper or magazine office,and the "agony aunt" is actually a team of writers.
There are also similar pages avaliable on the internet these days,and readers are invited to email for advice about a problem pages now contain advice from other readers,instead of an "agony aunt".
