比如这个句子：The wheels scooped up stones which hammered ominously under the car.
The wheels scooped up stones和stones which hammered ominously under the car.在逻辑上,两个动作在时间上是先后发生的（在理解上和翻译成中文时都是两个句子）,但这两个动作由一个定语从句合并在了一个复杂句中了.我不明白这种表达方式在英语里是习惯的表达还是特例?

如果主句先发生,从句后发生,那么主从句都用一般过去时.这是正常用法.例句：He stood up and gave a shout of nervous laughter to which their cries echoed dismay.(from James Joyce's "Ulysses")如果从句先发生,...
