Years ago, I lived in a building in a large city. The building next door was only a few feet away from
mine. There was a woman who lived there, whom I had never met, yet I could see her seated by her window each afternoon, sewing (做针线活) or reading.
After several months had gone by, I began to notice that her window was dirty. Everything was unclear through the dirty window. I would say to myself, "I wonder why that woman doesn"t wash her window. It
really looks terrible. "
One bright morning I decided to clean my flat, including washing the window on the inside.
Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down by the window with a cup of coffee for a
rest. What a surprise! Across the way, the woman sitting by her window was clearly visible. Her window was clean!
Then it dawned on me. I had been criticizing (批评) her dirty window, but all the time I was
watching hers through my own dirty window.
That was quite an important lesson for me. How often had I looked at and criticized others through the dirty window of my heart, through my own shortcomings (缺点 ) ?
Since then, whenever I wanted to judge (评判) someone, I asked myself first, "Am I looking at him
through my own dirty window?"
Then I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the world about me more clearly.

With every Olympic song, I found an excitement growing inside me when I was first to skate at the
age of five. But, unfortunately, I was badly hurt in a match. I quickly stopped my skating. Smiling, my
understanding husband just shook his head, "Skating is your passion(酷爱之物), but of course we can
stay at home."
It was crazy, I know, that a thirty-seven-year-old mother of two wanted to skate circles under disco
ball lights after 10 years. I found the excitement growing inside me. I loved to skate. So I was out there
having the time of my life, listening to the music with a smile upon my face and heart, with only one desire
to skate again.
I belonged here. It was so right to be back on the ice.
"Did you use to be a skater?" A little girl looked up at me with questioning eyes. Taking time to give
my answer, I looked around the rink(溜冰场), where I could see so many years of lessons, Olympic
dreams, and a love of the ice that I knew would never die.
"No," I replied. "I am a skater." With a smile, I glided away. Skating had finally turned me into a
champion--a winner of a lifelong passion for my favorite sport.
