阅读下面的短文,根据短文内容判断句子正(T)误(F)     One of the most important world problems is the growing population on the earth. The population of the world today
is more than 6,500,000,000. That is a great number and we know it quite well. The important thing is not how large the
population of the world is now, but is the speed of the growth. It"s about 1.63% every year.
In order to give you some ideas of the birth rate, look at the second hand of your watch. Every second, four babies
are born in the world. Another baby! Another baby! Another baby! Another baby! You cannot speak quickly enough
to keep up with the birth rate. The population is growing faster and faster. In one day, people have to find food for over
350,000 mouths more.
This growing population will make a big problem by the year 2010-there will be as many as 7,000,000,000 people on
the earth! So this is one of the biggest problems that you are going to see in your life.(     )1. The growing of death is one of the most important world problems.
(     )2. The speed of the growth is slowing down.
(     )3. Four babies are born every second in the world.
(     )4. In one year, people have to find food for over 350,000 mouths more.

As prices and building costs keep rising, the "do-it-yourself" (DIY) trend (趋势) in the U.S. continues
to grow.
"We needed furniture (家具) for our living room," says John Ross, "and we just didn"t have enough
money to buy it. So we decided to try making a few tables and chairs." John got married six months ago,
and like many young people these days, they are trying to make a home at a time when the cost of living
is very high. The Rosses took a 2-week lesson for $ 280 at a night school. Now they build all their
furniture and make repairs around the house.
Jim Hatfield has three boys and his wife died. He has a full-time job at home as well as in a shoe
making factory. Last month, he received a car repair bill for $ 420. "I was surprised and worried about
it. Now I"ve finished a car repair class, I should be able to fix the car by myself."
John and Jim are not unusual people. Most families in the country are doing everything they can to
save money so they can fight the high cost of living. If you want to become a "do-it-yourself", you can go
to DIY classes. And for those who don"t have time to take a lesson, there are books that tell you how
you can do things yourself.

Do You Go To Sleep In Class?
The "Acronym", our student newspaper, reports that most students go to sleep at 1: 30 a. m. Even if
that"s an exaggeration (夸张), it"s too close to the truth. Scientists say teenagers should sleep nine hours
each night. But that"s hard to do.
Some even "pull all-nighters". These are lazy students who have homework due (到期) the next day
that they haven"t done. In the morning they don"t look healthy and you can tell who has been doing it.
One of my classmates did a survey (调查) on the problem. She found that most kids pull all-nighters to
finish homework, but some do it for other reasons, such as playing computer games!
Maybe our lack of sleep is because of laziness-I think I"m a lazy student-or maybe it"s because we have
too much to do in American high schools.
I usually go to bed around midnight. If I stayed up past 1: 30 a. m, I wouldn"t get any work done. I"d be
falling asleep at my computer. My classes begin at 7:30 a.m. I"m partly awake in my first class. By the
second, I"m slightly tired and sleepy. By my third class, I"m sleepy. By midday I"m finally wide-awake.
 But by 3: 00 p. m., I"m slowing down again.
Most American high schools seem to have such a problem.
High school classes start at 7: 30 a. m., so students have to wake up one and a half hours before that to
get ready and catch the bus. It"s believed that lack of sleep can damage both grades and health.
Some schools are paying attention. Classes in those schools start at 8:30 a. m.
1. What"s the problem talked about in the passage?
    A. Many kids have too much homework to do.
    B. Many teenagers don"t have enough sleep.
    C. Many children are crazy about playing computer games.
    D. Many kids are too lazy to finish their homework on time.
2. The underlined expression "pull all-nighters" most probably means _____.
    A. 开夜车
    B. 上夜班
    C. 睡懒觉
    D. 补作业
3. Which of the following is NOT a reason mentioned in the passage?
    A. Laziness.
    B. Homework.
    C. Housework.
    D. Computer games.
4. What"s the idea suggested at the end of the passage?
    A. Later start of classes.
    B. Less homework.
    C. Going to bed early.
    D. Eating healthy food.
