Parents are the closest people to you in the world. They love you just because you are their child. And they would do anything for you. Like many middle school students, Zhuang Shuxia has a problem. She and her parents don"t get well. She said," I really want to be my Daddy"s little girl. But it seems that he just doesn"t understand me. He talks at me and doesn"t listen to me." Do you and your parents also have the problem like this? May 15 is the International Day of Families. People around the world give thanks for good things about their families and work on family problems. Why don"t you all take a walk and have a talk on that day? A report last year showed that among 2000 Beijing families, about 1500 students had the same problem as Zhuang. The children, 12 to 15 years old, didn"t like talking with their parents much. They weren"t happy at home. Of course, lots of children feel that way. But you and your parents will be much happier if you can be friends. Here are some ways to have a good talk with them: Find a good time to talk, for example, when you"re eating dinner, going out for a walk or watching TV. Tell them something you"re interested in, or ask them about their lives when they were young. They love to talk about that! Listen to them carefully, and look them in the eye. Be honest. Your parents will trust you more. And a trusting family is a happy family. |

The world is not only hungry, but it is also thirsty for water. This may seem strange to you, since nearly 70% of the earth"s surface is covered with water. But about 97% of that is sea water, or salt water. Man can only drink and use the other 3%-fresh water from rivers, lakes, underground, and other sources (资源). But we cannot even use all of that. However, our need for water is becoming larger almost day by day. We should take steps (措施) to deal with (对付; 处理) this problem now and in this way we can avoid (避免) a serious worldwide water shortage later on. We all have to learn how to stop wasting our valuable water. One of the first steps is to develop (开发; 发展) ways of reusing it. Today in most large cities, water is used only once and then sent out into a sewer system (下水道). From there it returns to the sea or runs into underground places. But even if (即使) every large city reused its water, we still would not have enough. All we have to do, to make use of (利用) sea water in the world, is to remove (去除) the salt. But it is not an easy thing. |
1. The world is thirsty for water because _______. |
[ ] |
A: man hasn"t got enough food to eat. B: we haven"t got enough fresh water. C: only 70% of the earth"s surface is water. D: more water is sent into sewer system. |
2. The underlined word "valuable" means______. |

Years ago, if a teenager had some problems in her life, she might write in her diary. Now a teenager with the same problems might go onto the Internet and write about them in a blog (博客). In many ways, a diary and a blog are almost the same. So, what makes a blog different from a diary? 1. Usually, a teenager treats her diary like a book full of secrets. Both diaries and blogs tell what happened to the writer that day. I have a little sister, and sometimes I go online to read her blog. She writes about things like waking up early for swimming practice and not studying enough for her chemistry exam. 2. Then, after I finished writing, I would hide my diary in a secret place because I was worried that my sister might read it! Because a blog is such a public way of writing, it has both good and bad points. 3. If I am angry with a friend during school and write something bad about her in my diary, she will never know. However, if my sister writes something bad about a friend, that friend may read her blog and get angry. 4. A blog has good points, of course. People choose to write in blogs because they know that their friends will read what they write. If I am feeling sad one day and write in my diary, "Nobody cares about me", no one will know about it. However, if my sister writes the same words in her blog, her best friends will quickly reply and tell her how much they like her. Blogs help people stay in contact (联系) with their friends and know what the people around them are doing. If people are careful about what they write, blogs are a very good way to write about everyday life. However, I still prefer my old diary! |
根据短文内容,从方框内选出适当的选项填入文中空白处,使短文内容完整正确。
A. So we have to be very careful of what we write. B. When I was her age, I wrote about the same thing, but only in my diary. C. The biggest problem with a blog is that anyone can read what you write. D. The biggest difference is that a blog is much more public than a diary. | 阅读下面短文,根据其内容回答后面所提问题或完成句子。 | People are often killed while crossing the road. Most of these people are old people and children. Old people are often killed because they usually can not see or hear very well. Children are often killed because they are not careful. They have to look and listen before they cross the road. A car, truck or bus can not stop very quickly. If the vehicle (汽车) is going very fast, it will travel many meters before it stops. People don"t always understand this. They think a car can stop within a few meters. The faster a car is traveling, the longer it takes to stop. It is very difficult for a person to know how far a car is traveling. The only safe way to cross the road is to look both ways, right and left. Then if the road is clear, it is safe to cross. The right way to cross the road is to walk quickly. It is not safe to run. If people run across the road, they may fall down. | 1. Who are often killed while crossing? 2. Why are children killed when crossing the road? 3. Is it easy for a driver to stop his vehicle when he finds something wrong some meters in front of him? 4. What had you better do when you cross the road? 5. Even though the vehicle is going very fast, it can stop within a few meters, can"t it? | 任务型阅读。 | Recently I was walking in town when I saw a group of school students in uniform. I was shocked to see that the girls" skirts were very short and they were wearing a lot of make-up. The boys looked very untidy. Their shirts were dirty and some of them even had their shirtfronts open. I noticed too that some of the students had pierced ears and-noses, which I don" t think should be allowed at school. And the other day, I was riding on the subway when I saw some boys from a local school. I know they were from this school because they were wearing the same uniforms my children. Instead of sitting quietly, these boys were making a lot of noise, chewing gum in an ugly manner, and using bad language. All the other passengers were looking at them and wondering how it was possible for these boys not to have any self-respect (自尊). They were also giving their school a very bad image (形象), which is shameful (羞耻的). I am a mother of two teenagers at school and I am worried that my children also behave like this and I do not know about it. Do school students know what is allowed and what is not allowed when they are wearing their school uniform? I think the school should be stricter with the students.
