In the past ten years, many scientists have studied the differences between men and women. And they all got the same answer: The sexes(性别) are different, because their brains are different. And this, the scientists say, makes men and women see the world in different ways. Boys, for example, generally are better than girls at mathematical ideas. Boys also generally are better than girls at the kind of hand and eye movements necessary for ball sports. Girls, on the other hand generally start speaking earlier than boys. And they generally see better in the dark than boys and are better at learning foreign languages. What makes men and women better at one thing or another? The answer is the brain. The brain has two sides connected by nerve(神经) tracks. The left side generally is used for mathematics, speech and writing. The right side is used for artistic creation(创造) and the expression for emotions(情感). In men and women, different areas in each side of the brain develop differently. In boys, for example, it’s the area used for mathematics. In girls, it is the area used for language skills. Another interesting difference is that the two sides of a man’s brain are connected by a smaller number of nerves than the two sides of a woman’s brain are. 小题1:Which of the following is the best title of the article?A.Research on the Brain | B.Men and Women are Different in Brain | C.People’s Different Brains | D.Who Are Better, Boys or Girls | 小题2:__________ men and women think differently.A.The different brains make | B.Sex makes | C.The different experiences make | D.The influences(影响) of society make | 小题3:According to the article, girls are generally better than boys at __________ in your school.A.mathematics | B.physics | C.English | D.chemistry | 小题4:Which of the following is true?A.The left side of brain in boys generally develops better than that in girls. | B.The left side of brain in girls generally develops better than that in boys. | C.Men are better than women in all things. | D.The area in girls used for language skills develops better. | 小题5:60. You do not need every word to understand the meaning of what you read. In fact, too much emphasis (强调) on separate words both slows your speed and reduces your comprehension. First, any habit which slows down your silent reading to the speed at which you speak or read aloud, is inefficient. If you point to each word as you read, or move your head, or form the words with your lips, you read poorly. Less obvious habits also hold back reading efficiency (效率). One is "saying" each word silently by moving your tongue or throat; another is "hearing" each word as you read. These are habits which should have been outgrown long ago. The beginning reader is learning how letters can make words, how written words are pronounced, and how sentences are put together. Your reading purpose is quite different, which is to understand meaning. It has been supposed that up to 75% of the words in English sentences are not really necessary for expressing the meaning. The secret of silent reading is to find out those key words and phrases which carry the thought, and to pay less attention to words which exist only for grammatical completeness. An efficient reader can grasp the meaning from a page at least twice as fast as he can read the page aloud. He takes in a whole phrase or thought unit at a time. If he “says" or "hears" words to himself, they are selected ones, said for emphasis. 小题1:This passage is mainly about ______.A.improving eye movement | B.reading more widely | C.changing poor reading habits | D.reading as fast as you can | 小题2:Saying each word to yourself as you read _____.A.improves comprehension | B.increases reading speed | C.gives too much emphasis | D.reduces reading efficiency | 小题3:Your reading purpose should be _____.A.to understand all the words | B.to make fewer eye movements | C.to understand meaning | D.to understand the grammatical structures | 小题4:While reading, efficient readers usually _____.A.move their eyes quickly | B.take in whole phrases or thought units | C.point at key words | D.read only important points for speed |

Unknown to most Facebook users, the social network actually offers a lot of privacy controls and security features which can help you lock your account, so you can speak freely. If it’s used properly, you’ll never have to worry about whether you will have to “friend” your boss or your mom. You can friend anyone you want while staying comfortable in the knowledge that not everyone gets to see everything you post. The problem with carrying out these privacy options is that they’re just too confusing for most non-tech clever people to handle. And often, most people don’t want to bother to take the time to learn. To simplify the process, we’re offering one easy step you can take today to help make your Facebook experience safer, more secure, and more private. Just make “Friend Lists”. Yes, it will take some time, especially if you’re connected to a couple of hundred friends already. But this step, while not the quickest, is fairly simple. And it will be one of the most useful things you can do on Facebook. Friend lists, as the name suggests, are lists for classifying your friends into various groups. The nice thing about this feature is that once you set these lists up, you won’t have to do it again. We suggest that you put your work colleagues and professional acquaintances into a friend list named “Work”, personal friends you’re not very close with into a list called “Acquaintances”, and people you’re related to into a list called “Family”. Those three main categories will separate out the groups of “friends” who you may want to hide some information from. To create a friend list, click on “Friends” at the top of the Facebook homepage. In the left-hand column, click “Friends” again under the “Lists” section. Now you’ll see a button at the top that says “Create New List”. Click it. In the pop-up that appears, you can name your list and pick members. If you’ve ever shared an application with your friends, the process of doing this will be very familiar. When you’ve finished making lists, you’ll be able to use them when selecting who can see what (or who can’t!) when configuring (配置) the security settings described below. 小题1:What function isn’t understood by most people on Facebook?A.Surfing the Internet. | B.Setting safety protection. | C.Sharing personal information. | D.Making foreign friends. | 小题2:What can we learn about Facebook according to the text?A.Its process of privacy-setting is too complex. | B.It displays everything people post. | C.It lacks privacy controls and security features. | D.Its post is designed for technical people. | 小题3:What advantage can we get from making friend lists?A.We can avoid our bosses adding us as friends. | B.We can share applications with friends. | C.We can separate acquaintances from family. | D.We can hide different information from different friends. |

A funny thing happened on the way to the communication revolution: we stopped talking to one another. I was walking in the park with a friend recently, and his cell phone rang, interrupting our conversation. There we were, walking and talking on a beautiful sunny day and suddenly, I became invisible, absent from the conversation. The telephone used to connect you to the absent. Now it makes people sitting next to you feel absent. Why is it that the more connected we get, the more disconnected I feel? Every advance in communication technology is a tragedy to the closeness of human interaction. With email and instant messaging over the Internet, we can now communicate without seeing or talking to one another. With voice-mail, you can conduct entire conversations without ever reaching anyone. If my mom has a question, I just leave the answer on her machine. As almost every contact we can imagine between human beings gets automated, the emotional distance index goes up. You can’t even call a person to get the phone number of another person any more. Directory assistance is almost always fully automated. I am not against modern technology. I own a cell phone, an ATM card, a voice-mail system, and an email account. Giving them up isn’t wise. They’re a great help to us. It"s some of their possible consequences that make me feel uneasy. More and more, I find myself hiding behind email to do a job meant for conversations or being relieved with voice-mail picking up because I don"t really have time to talk. The industry devoted to helping me keep in touch is making me lonelier. 小题1:Which of the following would be the best title of the passage?A.The Advance of Modern Technology | B.The Consequences of Communication Technology | C.The Story of Communication Revolution | D.The Automation of Modern Communication | 小题2:Which is NOT TURE according to the passage?A.The author has decided not to use his phone when he is with his friend. | B.Modern technology makes it hard for people to have a face-to-face talk. | C.The limited use of communication device brings much inconvenience to the author. | D.The industry intended to keep people in touch is taking them away from each other. | 小题3:The writer feels that the use of modern communication is ______.A.satisfying | B.encouraging | C.disappointing | D.embarrassing | 小题4:The passage implies that ______.A.modern technology is bridging the people | B.modern technology is separating the people | C.modern technology is developing too fast | D.modern technology is interrupting people |

School education is very important and useful. Yet no one can learn everything from school. A teacher, no matter how much he knows, can not teach his students everything they want to know. The teacher’s job is to show his students how to learn. He teaches them how to read and how to think. So much more is to be learned outside school by the students themselves. It is always more important to know how to study by oneself than to learn some facts or a formula by heart. It is actually quiet easy to learn a certain fact in history or a formula(公式) in mathematics. But it is very difficult to use a formula in working out a maths problem. Great scientist, such as Einstein, Newton and Galileo, didn’t get everything from school. But they were all so successful and invented so many things for men. They worked hard all their lives, wasting not a single moment. They would ask many questions as they read and they did thousands of experiments. 小题1:According to the passage, a good teacher should be one who is to_________.A.help his students to gain a good memory. | B.train his students’ ability to learn | C.teach his students everything he knows | D.have his students studying long hours | 小题2:If a student want to learn better, the most important thing for him to do is_______.A.to learn all the useful facts and formula by heart | B.to do everything as his teacher have said in class | C.to absorb (吸收) as much knowledge from his teacher as possible | D.to think more while he is studying | 小题3:The main reason for the success of the great scientists is that________.A.the teachers who had taught them were all experienced. | B.they used to work and study without a moment’s rest. | C.they had received more schooling than other people | D.they know how to study and worked hard | 小题4:What’s the good advice the writer gives us?A.We can learn better without teachers | B.We should do more asking and thinking while studying | C.We should pay enough attention to classroom | D.Book knowledge is of little use |

Shopping green can make an important contribution to protecting the planet and conserving its resources. Today’s consumer faces a wider range of choices than ever before, Add to that the steady stream of sales campaigns, and shopping smart only gets harder. To buy economically and reduce waste, safeguard health and protect the environment, you’ll need to follow some basic principles and have a clear idea of what you want. 1. Do Your Homework Before making any major purchase, take the time to research it. Plentiful resources are usually available online. Avoid buying in a hurry, and don’t be persuaded by overenthusiastic salespeople. Sleep on it if necessary—you won’t regret giving yourself some extra time to think. 2. Take the Long View Consider the running costs as well as the initial price of any item you buy. Many environmentally friendly products cost more to buy, but save you money in the long run. Choose items that are made to last. For example, pick a sofa that has a hardwood or steel frame rather than one made of softwood, which may break easily. 3. Skip the Disposable Option Buy reusable products like washable cloth towels, handkerchiefs, serviettes(餐巾)and cleaning cloths rather than paper, single-use varieties. Avoid other disposable supplies like cups, glasses, and chopsticks, too. 4. Take the Local Route Buy local products that are in season. It’s usually cheaper and fresher and has less harm to the environment. Markets and roadside stands are good sources. Some supermarkets also buy from local producers. Support it if you have one. 5. Avoid Wasteful Packaging Better not buy products that have too much packaging. It’s estimated that approximately 10 percent of every shopping bill is actually paying for packaging—which you normally just throw away! Moreover, significant amounts of energy are used in the production of packaging. Purchasing refillable and renewable containers can also help cut this kind of waste. 小题1:What could be the best title for this passage?A.Protection of the Planet | B.Green Shopping Principles | C.Environmentally Friendly Products | D.Resource Conservation | 小题2:The underlined phrase “sleep on it” has the similar meaning with .A.think it over | B.forget about it | C.set it aside | D.put it into action | 小题3:Why does the author advise us to buy lasting products?A.Because they are less expensive to buy. | B.Because they save money in the long run. | C.Because they will never break. | D.Because they are local products. | 小题4:Which of the following can be considered green shopping?A.Following the stream of sales campaigns. | B.Buying disposable chopsticks. | C.Focusing on packaging. | D.Purchasing from local markets. |
