There are many rights to make sure that people will be treated fairly when they are suspected
or accused of a crime. Sometimes these rights are called "due process of law". In using these rights,
a person should have the help of a lawyer.
You have a right to protect against unreasonable searches and seizures. The police generally
may not search you or your home, or take things you own, without a "warrant". A warrant is a
paper which states, very exactly , the place to be searched and the things to be taken. Sometimes,
however, the police will not need a warrant to search you or your property. If an officer sees you
committing a crime, or if he has a good reason to believe you have committed a serious crime, he
may arrest you and search you and the area right around you without a warrant.
If you invite a police without a warrant to come into your house and he finds proof of crime,
the evidence may be used against you in court. If you do not want an officer to search you or your
home and he does not have a warrant, tell him that you do not give him the right to search. However,
if the officer will not listen, do not try to stop him. It is dangerous to resist and it may be illegal to do
so. Any evidence which a policeman gets during an unlawful search and seizure cannot be used against
you.
Police officers must act reasonably and fairly at all times. They should use physical force only when
it is needed to arrest someone to enforce a law. They may not use physical violence to "teach someone
a lesson".
I used to be tile messiest person alive. Over the years, through watching others and by trial and error,
I have finally found ways to come up with plans, organize them and follow through with them.
Make an outline of everything you need to have and do to make your plan happen. Make a list of
all of the steps that need to be accomplished and think about what needs to be done.
Detail everything thoroughly and read over it so you can start coming up with some mental solutions
of how to carry out your plans.
You should ensure that if for some reason way one doesn"t work, you have way two and way three to
lean back on. Therefore, different ways are needed at hand. It"s just a matter of being organized.
Chances are that there is always more than one way of doing things, and chances are that if one of
those ways doesn"t work, one of the other ones will.
Committing yourself to finishing at least part if not all of your plan at once is also necessary. It will
show that you not only have initiative to get things rolling, but that you are interested in the results
obtained with making the move to get everything done.
If you make a commitment to finish before a specific time, make sure that you carry that out, and be
sure to do everything in the way you said you would, within the time-frame you set for yourself.
Don"t try to tackle more things all at a time. All that does is delay your progress, distract you and
make you lose your interest, motivation and energy.
Carrying out an effective plan requires being as organized as possible. You will only achieve this by
sticking to the order of the plan and not deviating or trying to do more at a time.
Last but not the least, you should never abandon things mid-project. It will only annoy everyone
around you including yourself. Unfinished plans are a waste of time, energy and, in some cases, even
money.
So, don"t be afraid of organization. The older we get, the more necessary it becomes to have the skills
necessary to follow through with confidence and to be able to carry through plans in an organized and
manageable way. It pays to be organized, after all.

A "blogger" is a person who writes on an Internet computer Web site called a "blog". The word "blog" is a short way of saying web log, or personal Web site. Anyone can start a blog, and they can write about anything they like. There are millions of blogs on the Internet today. They provide news, information and ideas to many people who read them. They contain links to other Web sites. And they provide a place for people to write their ideas and react to the ideas of others. A research company called Perseus has studied more than 3,000 Web logs. It says that blogs are most popular with teenage girls. They use them to let their friends know what is happening in their lives. The study also says that more than 100,000 bloggers stopped taking part in the activity after a year. However, some people develop serious blogs to present political and other ideas. For example, the Republican and Democratic parties in the southern state of Kentucky recently started their own blogs. And American companies are beginning to use blogs to advertise their products. At the same time, some long-standing blogs have ended. Last week, blogging leader Dave Winer closed his free blog service, weblogs.com. He says the site became too costly to continue. He started the blog four years ago, and thousands of people had written on it. One blog that is still going strong is called Rebecca"s Pocket. It involves much useful information for readers. Rebecca Blood created the Web site in 1999. She wrote about the history of blogs on the site. That article led to a book called "The Weblog Handbook". It has been translated into four languages so far. Ms Blood says Rebecca"s Pocket gets about 30,000 visitors a month. She writes about anything and everything-politics, culture and movies. She recently provided medical advice. And she wrote about how to prevent people from stealing money from online bank accounts. 1. The text is written mainly to ____. A. introduce an Internet computer Web site called "blog" B. introduce a way of reading on blogs C. tell readers about blogs D. tell readers how to write blogs 2. From the text we can learn that blogs cover almost everything except ___. A. different ideas B. medical advice C. advertisements D. account codes 3. According to this passage , which of the following is NOT true? A. Politicians don"t use blogs at all B. A lot of bloggers no longer write or read blogs C. Those who like to use blogs are mostly teenage girls D. Dave Winer closed his "weblogs.com" because of money shortage 4. The reason why Rebecca"s Pocket is still going strong is that ____. A. it was created by a woman B. it provides plenty of useful information and advice C. it is about the history of books D. it has editions in at least four different languages

Being able to multitask-doing several things at the same time-is considered a welcome skill by most people. But if we consider the situation of the young people aged from eight to eighteen, we should think again. What we often see nowadays is that young people juggle an ever larger number of electronic devices as they study. While working, they also surf on the Internet, send out emails, answer the telephone and listen to music on their iPods. In a sense, they are spending a significant amount of time in fruitless efforts as they multitask. Multitasking is even changing the relationship between family members. As young people give so much attention to their own worlds, they seem to have no time to spend with the other people around them. They can no longer greet family members when they enter the house, nor can they eat at the family table. Multitasking also affects young people"s performance at university and in the workplace. When asked about their opinion of the effect of modern gadgets on their performance of tasks, many young people gave a positive response. However, the response from the worlds of education and business was not quite as positive. Educators feel that multitasking by children has a serious effect on later develop-ment of study skills. They believe that many college students now need help to improve their study skills. Similarly, employers feel that young people entering the job market need to be taught all over again, as modern gadgets have made it unnecessary for them to learn special skills to do their work. 1. What does the underlined word "juggle" in Paragraph 2 most probably mean? A. Want to buy. B. Take the place of. C. Use at the same time. D. Seek for information from. 2. In Paragraph 3, the author points out that ________. A. family members do not eat at the family table. B. family members do not greet each other. C. young people live happily in their families D. young people seldom talk with their family members 3. What is the main idea of the last paragraph? A. multitasking is harmful to young people"s development. B. Young people benefit a lot from modern gadgets. C. Multitasking is an important skill to young people. D. Yong people must learn skills for future jobs. 4. The author develops the passage mainly by ________. A. providing typical examples B. following the natural time order C. comparing opinions from different fields D. presenting a cause and analyzing its effects
