题型:不详难度:来源:
One of the greatest sources of unhappiness,in my experience,is the difficulty we have in accepting things as they are. When we see something we don’t like,we wish it could be different. We cry out for something better. That may be human nature,or perhaps it’s something ingrained(根深蒂固的) in our culture. The root of the unhappiness isn’t necessarily that we want things to be different. However, it’s that we decided we didn’t like it in the first place. We’ve judged it as bad, rather than saying, “It"s not bad or good, and it just is it.” In one of my books,I said“You should expect people to mess up and expect things to go differently than you planned”.Some readers said it"s too sorrowful to expect things to go wrong. However, it’s only negative if you see it as negative and judge it as bad.Instead, you could accept it as the way the world works and try to understand why that is. This can be applied to whatever you do:how other people act at work, how politics works and how depressing the news media can be.Accept these things as they are,and try to understand why they’re that way.It will save you a lot of sadness, because you’ll no longer say,“Oh.1 wish bad things didn’t happen!’’ Does it mean you can never change things? Not at a11.But change things not because you can’t accept things as they are,but because you enjoy the process of changing, learning and growing. Can we make this world a better place? You can say that you’11 continue to try to do things to help others,to grow as a person,to make a difference in this world. That’s the correct path you choose to take, because you enjoy that path. Therefore, when you find yourself judging and wishing for difference, try a different approach:accept, and understand. It might lead to some interesting results. 小题1:The author believes that we feel unhappy maybe because ___________.A.it is our natural emotion in the life | B.culture asks us to be different from others | C.everyone has their own opinions on things | D.we dislike something in the beginning | 小题2:Some readers think the words in the author’s book is too ______________.A.depressing | B.frightening | C.delighting | D.idealistic | 小题3:In Paragraph 4,the underlined word "it" refers to ____________.A.acting well at work and in politics | B.feeling depressed for the news media | C.accepting and understanding what has happened | D.saying something negative when bad things come | 小题4:In the last paragraph, you are advised _____________.A.to help others and make a difference | B.to enjoy what you have to do in the work | C.to judge yourself and make a wish for you | D.to try a new way when making the world better | 小题5:What is the main theme of the passage?A.Expecting things to be different gives us hope. | B.Accepting can make our life happier and better. | C.Traditional culture becomes root of unhappiness. | D.Judging good or bad is important for our world. |

A person, like a commodity, needs packaging. But going too far is absolutely undesirable. A little exaggeration(夸张) will do no harm when it shows the person’s unique qualities to their advantages. To show personal attractiveness in a casual and natural way, it is important for one to have a clear knowledge of oneself. A skilled packager knows how to add art to nature without any signs of embellishment so that the person so packaged is not a commodity, but a human being, lively and lovely. A young person, especially a female, shining with beauty and full of life, has all the favor granted. Youth however, comes and goes in a flash. Packaging for the middle-aged is primarily to hide the marks made by years. If you still enjoy life enough to keep self-confidence and work at pioneering work, you are unique in your natural qualities, and your attractiveness and grace will remain. Elderly people are beautiful if their river of life has been, through plains, mountains and jungles, running its course as it should. You have really lived your life, which now arrives at a self - satisfied stage of quietness and calmness with no interest in fame or wealth. There is no need to make use of hair dyeing. The snow-capped mountain itself is a beautiful scene of fairyland. Let your looks change from young to old in step with the natural ageing process so as to keep in harmony with nature, for harmony itself is beauty, while the other way round will only end in unpleasantness. To be in the company of the elderly is like reading a thick book of good edition, which attracts one so much that one is unwilling to part with it. As long as one finds where one stands, one knows how to package oneself, just as a commodity sets up its brand by the right packaging. 小题1:The underlined word in the first paragraph is closest to the word ______ in meaning.A.decoration | B.clarification | C.movement | D.identification | 小题2:It can be concluded from the text that ______.A.people should be packaged at all ages | B.people should be packaged in a special way | C.elderly people also care about packaging | D.proper packaging makes people attractive | 小题3:For the middle-aged, attractiveness ______ . A.hardly exists | B.is the strongest | C.comes from the inside | D.comes from the appearance | 小题4:According to the author, if you want to keep in harmony with nature, you should ______.A.dye your hair | B.make up at a young age | C.follow the ageing process | D.give up fame and wealth | 小题5:The underlined sentence means that elderly people ______.A.are usually packaged like a finely-made book | B.experience a lot and have rich knowledge of life | C.do a lot of traveling and can give you much information | D.enjoy reading thick books about beautiful nature and fairyland |

My father was a foreman of a sugar-cane plantation(甘蔗种植园) in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. My first job was to drive the oxen that ploughed(耕) the cane fields. I would walk behind an ox(牛), guiding him with a broomstick. For $ 1 a day, I worked eight hours straight, with no food breaks. It was very tedious work, but it prepared me for life and taught me many lasting lessons. Because the plantation owners were always watching us, I had to be on time every day and work as hard as I could. I’ve never been late for any job since. I also learned about being respectful and faithful to the people you work for. More important, I earned my pay; it never entered my mind to say I was sick just because I didn’t want to work. I was only six years old, but I was doing a man’s job. Our family needed every dollar we could make because my father never earned more than $ 18 a week. Our home was a three-room wood shack with a dirty floor and no toilet. Nothing made me prouder than bringing home money to help my mother, father, two brothers and three sisters. This gave me self-esteem(自尊心), one of the most important things a person can have. When I was seven, I got work at a golf course(高尔夫球场) near our house. My job was to stand down the fairway and spot the balls as they landed, so the golfers could find them. Losing a ball meant you were fired, so I never missed one. Some nights I would lie in bed and dreamt of making thousands of dollars by playing golf and being able to buy a bicycle. The more I dreamed, the more I thought. Why not? I made my first golf club out of guava limb(番石榴树枝) and a piece of pipe. Then I hammered an empty tin can into the shape of a ball. And finally I dug two small holes in the ground and hit the ball back and forth. I practiced with the same devotion and intensity. I learned working in the field — except now I was driving golf balls with club, not oxen with a broomstick. 小题1:The word “tedious” in Paragraph 2 most probably means _______.A.easy | B.boring | C.interesting | D.unusual | 小题2:The writer learned that_______ from his first job.A.he should work for those who he liked most | B.he should work longer than what he was expected | C.he should never fail to say hello to his owner | D.he should be respectful and faithful to the people he worked for | 小题3:_______ gave the writer self-esteem.A.Having a family of eight people | B.Owning his own golf course | C.Bringing money back home to help the family | D.Helping his father with the work on the plantation |

Any day we wish;we can discipline ourselves to change it a11.Any day we wish;we can open the book that will open our mind to new knowledge.Any day we wish;we can start a new activity.Any day we wish;we can start the process of life change. We can do it immediately,or next week,or next month,or next year. We can also do nothing. We can pretend rather than perform. And if the idea of having to change ourselves makes us uncomfortable,we can remain as we are.We can choose rest over labor, entertainment over education, delusion(幻想)over truth, and doubt over confidence. The choices are ours to make. But while we complain about the effect,we continue to nourish(助长)the cause. As Shakespeare uniquely observed,“The fault is not in the stars, but in ourselves.’’We created our circumstances by our past choices. We have both the ability and the responsibility to make better choices beginning today. Those who are in search of the good life do not need more answers or more time to think things over to reach better conclusions. They need the truth .They need the whole truth .And the responsibility to nothing but the truth. We cannot allow our errors in judgment, repeated every day,to lead us down the wrong path. We must keep coming back to those basics that make the biggest difference in how our life works out.And then we must make the very choices that will bring life, happiness and joy into our daily lives . And if I may be so bold to offer my last piece of advice for someone seeking and needing to make changes in their life—If you don’t like how things are, change it !You’re not a tree. You have the ability to totally transform every area in your life — and it all begins with your very own power of choice. 小题1:The first paragraph tells us that_________.A.no one wants to be disciplined | B.we often need some new knowledge | C.taking activities does good to our health | D.we want to change all the time | 小题2:We may conclude from the second paragraph thatA.whatever happens, we have to change ourselves | B.people tend to nourish the cause of bad results | C.whether we change or not depends on ourselves | D.most choices we made are not good enough | 小题3:From Shakespeare’s words,we know________.A.it is our duty to change for the better | B.we complain a lot about our past choices | C.sometimes we have to face the fate | D.we should believe in ourselves in life | 小题4:In the author’s opinion,if。you want a good life, what you need most is_______.A.self confidence | B.good choices | C.strong wills | D.the truth |

When I was a small boy my family was very poor. My father always used his savings to my mother to visit her parents who lived far away. There was just my younger brother and myself in the house. One evening Dad came home from and there was no food in the house, not a piece of bread. Although we were , my brother and I went to bed without eating anything. My father had no money, but I knew from the on his face that he could not let us have an empty stomach. He the house and about two hours later returned and quickly us up. He had in his hand two small potato pies, which he gave us to eat. I don"t know where he got the but somehow he to get us something to eat. My father had not eaten and had worked all day he sat there with great satisfaction watching us eat. This has stayed in my mind and left more of an impression than any amount of he may ever have given me. At that moment, I felt happy knowing that he was there and would not let us . I guess the I am trying to make is that in difficult times it is not to show weakness but strength and character. If a is the cement (粘合剂) that holds a family together, then the father is that strengthens that cement. It is his values and and memories that have carried me forward and helped me to my own problems in life. In my own I have learned that it is the valuable time you spend with your children and the values you give to them that will remain with them always.
