One evening her husband reached home with an out-of-the-way(少有的） air(表情、神态)cause he thought he finally had chance to please his dumpish wife .He got a envelope in his hand in which covered an invitation from the the minister.It would be a great ball ,Mathilde was very clear of that.But instead of being happy she was even more dumpish.She told her hasband the puzzled clerk to give the invitation away,she would rather die than to present the ball without any jewels and beautiful colthes.His husband was not goning to throw away such a good chance,cause inside his heart he did want Mathilde to cheer up.So he promised to pay for the evening dress as long as it was not above 400 franc.Mathilde turened excited not only because of the dress but also she remembered she had a friend whom she could borrow the jewels from.Next day she was at the door of madame Forestier,and easily she got a shining necklace from the bighearted rich lady.After all of these preparations Mathilde was ready to be the center of attention at the ball
