Is getting a black belt(腰带) on your life’s to-do list? Then this elderly woman in San Francisco just might be your hero. Just two years before her 100th birthday, Sensei Keiko Fukuda has become the first woman to achieve a tenth-degree black belt --- the highest rank in Judo (柔道). Fukuda is now one of only four living people who have earned the tenth-degree black belt. Throughout history, only 16 people have ever achieved this honor. Fukuda began practicing Judo in 1935 and is the only surviving student of its founder, Kano Jiguro. At her teacher’s requirement, she learned English to help spread Judo internationally. During a time when getting married, building a family and becoming a housewife were the norms(行为标准),Fukuda broke from tradition, continuing Judo instead of getting married. “All I did was Judo ... This was my marriage,” Fukuda replied tearfully to the San Francisco Chronicle. “This is when my destiny (命运) was set. I just imagined how long the road would be.” She described the Jiguro’s school as “old-fashioned and sexist(性别歧视的) about belts and ranks”. In fact, an edict(法令) that prevented women from achieving any higher than a fifth-degree black belt kept Fukuda at that level for 30 years. She finally got the sixth degree in 1972 when a women’s division(分部)was created. Fukuda thinks Judo and her life to be “gentle, kind and beautiful, yet firm and strong, both mentally and physically”. Fukuda says this kind of beauty is not external(外在的). She explained. “I believe this inner beauty is true beauty… All my life this has been my dream.” Her dream was turned into reality, and the 98-year-old Sensei Keiko Fukuda continues to teach Judo three times a week at a women’s Judo training center. 小题1:Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the article?A.She is the first woman to achieve the highest rank in Judo. | B.It took her 30 years to get a tenth-degree black belt. | C.Her teacher wanted her to help spread Judo to other parts of the world. | D.Only one woman and fifteen men have ever earned the tenth-degree black belt in the history. | 小题2:Why did Fukuda pursue(追求) Judo all her life?A.To look for inner beauty. | B.To help Japan become stronger. | C.To spread Judo around the world. | D.To fight against tradition. | 小题3:Which of the following best describes Fukuda according to the article?A.Traditional | B.Popular | C.Determined (坚定的) | D.Curious |

Just two years before her 100th birthday, Sensei Keiko Fukuda has become the first woman to achieve a tenth-degree black belt --- the highest rank in Judo (柔道). 分析她的一句话:“I believe this inner beauty is true beauty… All my life this has been my dream.”

Although I didn’t have any interest in being a school bus driver, I became one. Many years later, I was still working on the school bus. There are so many good reasons. Firstly, the talk brought me different kinds of information. I also got to hear all the family secrets of the newcomers. I have a toy bear who was a great comforter(安慰者) for the little ones. The kids got to look after him on the trip to school and he waited patiently for them to get on for the trip home.
Our bus would often pass a place where we could see some alpacas (羊驼) in front of a farm house. Little Michael would cry excitedly from the seat, “Look, Miss! Look at the camels!” He used to put his head out of the bus window. When I warned him that a little insect would come into his nose if he wasn’t careful, he smartly gave up the habit. I remember a little girl got on the bus one morning 5 years ago and sobbed(抽泣) all the way to school. We arrived at the school gate. As she waited to get down the bus, she threw her arms around my neck and cried that her grandfather had died the night before. A school bus driver needs to keep one eye on the road and the other on the mirror to watch what the little ones are doing down the back. Now, it’s important to think how many lives I’ve been responsible(负责的) for, and how many kilometers I’ve driven in order to get my passengers home safely during the 20 years. I’ve enjoyed it, but it’s time to rest and park my school bus. 小题1:When did the writer begin to be a school bus driver?A.5 years ago. | B.10 years ago. | C.20 years ago. | D.30 years ago. | 小题2:What does the underlined word “them” in the first paragraph refer to (所指)?A.toy bears | B.kids | C.school buses | D.secrets | 小题3:Which of the following is TRUE?A.Children didn’t like the driver. | B.The driver likes the job all the time. | C.The little girl was excited at seeing the camels. | D.Children sometimes talked about their family secrets on the bus. | 小题4:The writer didn’t give up her job because .A.driving was her hobby | B.children made her valuable | C.drivers were paid well | D.children loved her toy bear | 小题5:What may the writer’s future plan be?A.She decides to stop the job. | B.She tries to go on driving. | C.She wants to have a holiday. | D.She hopes to help more kids. |

Michelle Obama is the first lady of America. She visited China on March 20th, 2014. When she met the president Xi, she wore a red dress. She said her red dress is always ready for the important moment. Do you know she is also the first lady of fashion American?
Every first lady since Lou Hoover (except Bess Truman) has appeared in the high-fashion magazine, Vogue. But Mrs. Obama is only the second to appear on the cover. She appeared wearing a pink silk dress by Jason Wu. When she was interviewed by the editor of Vogue, Mrs. Obama said what she wears is always paid attention to by many people. “I’m not going to pretend that I don"t care about it.” she said. Most cover models have their clothes chosen for them by Vogue, or at least editors work as advisers. However, Mrs. Obama did choose outfits for the Vogue photos from labels(商标) she had worn before. “She doesn"t need any help. She loves fashion and knows what works for her,” Talley said. “She’s never had a conversation with me about, `What do you think?" or `How did this look?" And I"m glad for that.” 小题1:From the second paragraph we know__________.A.every first lady has appeared on the cover of Vogue | B.only Bess Truman has appeared on the cover of Vogue | C.only two first ladies have appeared on the cover of Vogue | D.only Mrs. Obama has appeared on the cover of Vogue | 小题2:According to the passage, we know Mrs. Obama________.A.is a woman of kindness | B.has her own sense of beauty and idea | C.herself is a clothes designer and model | D.doesn’t like to be watched changing clothes |

Yesterday I went to the nursing home to visit my grandma. She just got out of the hospital recently where she had some serious operations. I wanted to surprise her after work, so I stopped by for a quick visit. When I got there, she was happy to see me. We hugged, kissed and exchanged greetings. Then I heard a woman crying. It was my grandma’s roommate. The curtain was drawn so I could not see her. She started calling out a name that wasn’t mine but she was certainly talking to me, begging me to go to her side of the room. I ignored her at first and continued visiting with my grandma. Then she started begging and saying, “Please, come to see me!” So I went to see her. When I drew the curtain back, she looked so old but flashed me the biggest smile! She opened her arms wide for me to hug her so I bent low and gave her a hug. I sat on her bed and talked with her for a few minutes. She kept calling me by the other name but I did not correct her. She told me stories as if I had been there when they happened. Finally I went back to visit with my grandma. Then the woman started crying again, saying, “Please, come back.” She finally slept. I stopped by the nurse’s station and the nurse told me that the lady suffers from Alzheimer’s. I mentioned the name she had called me. The nurse told me it was the lady’s daughter’s name. Then I understood why she wanted me to go to visit her. We will all get old some day. Some of us will have broken minds like he lady and some of us will have broken bodies like my grandma. As I was leaving I promised I would go back and visit the lady, even after my grandma moves back to her home. 小题1:Why did the writer’s grandma live in a nursing home?A.Because she needed another operation. | B.Because she had been used to living there. | C.Because she waited for the writer to come. | D.Because she wanted to be looked after there. | 小题2:According to the text, the woman cried because_________.A.she missed her daughter very much | B.she expected to tell stories to the writer | C.she feared the curtain being drawn | D.she was troubled by the writer’s talking | 小题3:Which word can be used to describe the crying woman?A.Selfish. | B.Lonely. | C.Strong. | D.Lazy. | 小题4:What can the writer learn from her experience?A.The old will become forgetful. | B.Everyone will get old someday. | C.The old need care from others. | D.We shouldn’t leave the old in the nursing home. | 小题5:Which of the following is right according to the passage?A.The lady came out to see me. | B.the lady’s daughter always visited her. | C.The writer’s grandma had some serious illness. | D.The writer would go back and visit the old lady. |

Recently the “China dream” has been the subject of a public topic. Although it is quite common for Chinese people to dream of an empowered or a prosperous(繁荣) China, most people also have their own dreams. Throughout China’s thousands of years of history, these “China dreams” have always existed. Do you have a “China dream”? I brought up this topic with several young Chinese students with higher U.S. educational backgrounds. Unsurprisingly, they all had their own heartfelt hopes and dreams for their native country.
Fred Wang, an MBA candidate in the U.S. said, “I dream of equal chance for the young in China. Equality means all young people can compete fairly, based on the rule-of-law no matter whether they are rich or poor.” Yujie Zhao, another MBA candidate in California said, “I dream of a happy family with an affordable home. I dream of having the best education for my children so they will not lose at the starting line, and I dream of being able to take good care of my parents after they retire(退休).” She said, “It seems like all my dreams are about family, but it is so true for most Chinese young dreamers today.” Yiqiong Zhang, an MBA graduate from the US shared her dreams. “I have a dream which I have been holding for many years, that is after working hard for about 20 to 25 years, I can have enough money to build and manage a small bookstore or a flower shop. Besides working hard, I am able to enjoy life: to play the piano, to hike and to enjoy a two-month-long vacation every year. This may be a common dream among young Chinese students.” There is no doubt that all of these young students have their own “China dream”. They all love China, they all love chasing their dreams. Beautiful “China Dream” requires hard work. Everyone should work hard to make their dream come true. 小题1:Which is right about the three young Chinese students?A.They receive higher education in China. | B.They have their own hopes and dreams for China. | C.They receive education of all levels in America. | D.They have their own hopes and dreams for America. | 小题2:What does the word “compete” in the second paragraph mean? 小题3:Yujie Zhao hopes that ___________.A.all young people can have equal opportunities | B.she can have a happy family with a big house | C.her children can receive the best education in America | D.she can look after her parents well when they are old | 小题4:Which one is NOT Yiqiong Zhang’s dream?A.Working hard for about 20 to 25 years. | B.Managing a small bookstore or a flower shop. | C.Playing the piano and hiking in her free time. | D.Having a two-month holiday every year. | 小题5:From the passage we can learn that ____________.A.“China Dream” is very difficult to come true. | B.“China Dream” does need everyone’s hard work. | C.“China Dream” is a subject we need to study in China. | D.“China Dream” is only a dream about the development of our country. |
