阅读理解。          Which of your hands do you use most ? Very few of us use both of our hands well. Most of us are right-
handed. Only about five people out of a hundred are left-handed. New-born babies can take things with either of
their hands, but in about two years they like to use their right hands. Scientists don"t know why this happens.
They have studied it. They think our animal ancestors (祖先) are right-handed. This may not be true. Monkeys
are our closest relations in the animal world. Scientists have found that monkeys like to use one of their hands
more than the other-but it can be either hand. There are as many right-handed ones. Next time you visit the zoo,
watch the monkeys carefully. You"ll see that some of them will swing (摆动)from their right hands and others
will use their left hands. But most human beings (人类) use their right hands better and this makes life difficult
for the left-handed ones. We live in a right-handed world.

根据短文内容,判断下列句子的正误,正确的用“T”,错误的用“F”。
It takes only 30 seconds to finish the journey in the South Pole. Visitors to the South Pole like to walk
around, so there is a clear path in the snow there. Some visitors are so excited that they stand on their heads
and have their pictures taken with flags of the Antarctic countries in the background.
The United States has kept a base in the South Pole since 1956. Chinese scientists and technological
engineers have built an observation station there, too.
The South Pole itself is marked by a two-meter bamboo pole stuck in the ice. The ice cap (冰盖), which
is 2,850 meters thick, moves 12 meters a year in the direction of Buenos Aires, Argentina. So the bamboo pole
has to be moved back the same distance.
The air in the South Pole is the cleanest on earth. Scientists from different countries have been working
on making the Antarctic a world park to save it from being polluted by the wrong use of its oil and other
mineral resources.
1. Why do visitors to the South Pole like to walk around? Because ____.

B. it doesn"t take long to finish the journey there
C. the weather there is suitable for visitors to do so

Traveling Can Help Solve the Crime Problems
Americans think that travel is good for you. Some even think it can help to solve one of the country"s
worst problems-crime.
Crime worries a lot of people. Every year, the number of crimes goes up and up. They often come from
sad homes, with only one parent at all. There are problems with alcohol (酒精)and drugs (麻醉药).
There are many young criminals in prison. But prison doesn"t change them 60 to 70 percent will go back
to crime when they come out of prison.
One man, Bob Burton, thought of a new idea. In the old days, young men had to live a hard life on the
road.  They learnt to be strong and brave, and to help their friends in time of danger. This helped them to grow
into men. So Bob started "Vision Quest".
He takes young criminals on a long, long journey with horses and wagons (四轮马车)3,000 miles through
7 states. They are on the road for more than one year.
The young people on "Vision Quest" all have bad problems. Most of them have already spent time in
prison. This is the last chance.
It"s hard work on the road. The day starts before the sun comes up. The boys and girls have to feed the
horses. Some of them have never loved anyone before. But they can love their horses. That love can help them
to a new life.
Not all young people in "Vision Quest" will leave crime behind them. 30 or 40 percent will one day be in the prison again. But that"s a lot better than 60 or 70 percent. Bob is right. Travel can be good for you.
Even today, Americans still say, "Go west, young men."

sparks in tubes which has special gases. That is known as indirect light. The light we see directly from the
source of light, such as sun, is known as direct light.

a better light source in a number of cases.

阅读下文,从所给的四个选项中选出一个最佳答案。
We have always been interested in the moon. 2000 years ago people already knew it moved around the
earth and where it would be in the sky at different times of the year. At that time, everything about the moon
was learned by watching it carefully in the sky.
When scientists could use telescopes to study the moon more closely, their ideas began to change. They
could see the moon was made of rocks. Most scientists thought moon rocks would be different from those on
Earth. This was because they believed the moon had once been a planet that had been caught in the earth"s
gravity (引力) millions of years earlier.
In 1969 moon rocks were finally brought to the earth and studied. Much to their surprise, scientists
found that, except for water, the moon and the earth were made of the same things. Once again new ideas
were needed for this new information.
After years of study, most scientists now think that the moon was once part of Earth. They believe very
early in its history, maybe 4 million years ago, something about the size of Mars hit Earth. This sent billions of
rocks into space around our planet. These rocks slowly joined together and after many years became the moon.
In the future, even though our ideas about the moon may change again, we will still be interested in it.
1. Now, we"re sure _________
[     ]
A. Moon rocks are quite different from those on Earth.
B. Moon was once a part of Earth.
C. Moon moves around Earth and it"s the only satellite of Earth.
D. Moon was once a planet caught in Earth"s gravity.
2. In 1969 there is a big event, that is __________.
