My husband, Micheal, and I were at a restaurant with his boss, a rather stern(严厉的) elderly man. When Micheal began a story I was sure he had told before, I gave him a kick under the table. There was no response, so I gave him another kick. Still the story went on. Suddenly he stopped and said with a smile, “Oh, but I’ve told you this one before, haven’t I ?” We all chuckled and changed the subject. Later, on the dance floor, I asked my husband why it had taken him so long to get my message. “What do you mean?” he replied. “I cut off the story as soon as you kicked me.” “But I kicked you twice, and it still took you a while to stop!” Suddenly we realized what had happened and returned to our table. The boss smiled and said, “Don’t worry. After the second one I thought it wasn’t for me, so I passed it along!” 小题1:The writer kicked her husband because __________.A.she didn’t like him | B.she didn’t like stories | C.he was telling a story he had told before | D.the story he told was not interesting | 小题2:What can be inferred from the text?A.Micheal was kicked three times. | B.Micheal kicked the boss. | C.The boss was kicked twice | D.The boss kicked the author. | 小题3:They all chuckled because __________.A.they kicked each other | B.they changed the subject in the end | C.they were all satisfied with the dinner | D.they all thought each of them had done something interesting | 小题4:It took Micheal so long to stop his story because __________.A.he wanted to finish the whole story | B.he got a kick only after a long while | C.he didn’t understand at once why he was kicked | D.the two kicks given were not heavy enough |

答案
小题1:C 小题2:C 小题3:D 小题4:B |
解析
文章介绍了一个有趣的小故事。 小题1:C 细节题。根据第2行Micheal began a story I was sure he had told before,可知C正确。 小题2:C 细节题。根据2,3行, I gave him a kick under the table. There was no response, so I gave him another kick. Still the story went on.故B正确。 |

A good memory is a great help in learning a language. Everybody learns his own language by remembering what he hears when he is a small child, and some children, like boys and girls who live abroad with their parents, seem to learn two languages almost as easily as one. In school it is not easy to learn a second language because the pupils have so little time for it, and they are busy with other subjects, too. A man’s mind is rather like a camera, but it takes photos not only of what we see but of what we feel, hear, smell and taste. When we take a real photo with a camera, there is much to do before the photo is finished and ready to show to our friends. In the same way there is much work to be done before we can keep a picture forever in our mind. Memory is the diary that we all carry about with us. 小题1:We usually begin to learn our own language by ________ it.A.speaking | B.hearing | C.saying | D.teaching | 小题2:If you have a good ________ , you’ll have less difficulty in learning something. A.teacher | B.camera | C.memory | D.family | 小题3:The children who live abroad with their parents can learn two languages more easily, because ______. A.they are very clever | B.they have good teachers | C.they have more chances to use these languages | D.they have a better life | 小题4:Memory is ________ that we write in our mind and carry about. A.the best diary | B.the best camera | C.a great help | D.a beautiful picture |

Sam, a dog, was left behind in Colorado while his owners, Mr. And Mrs. Green moved to Southern California. They did not give the dog up. They found him a very nice home before they moved. They would have let Sam accompany them, but they were afraid the dog’s presence would make it difficult for them to rent a house when they reached their destination. The Green family lived in Colorado for less than a year. Before that, they had lived in the same neighborhood in California to which they returned. So Sam had been there before, but only for a short time when he was young. Several months after the Greens left Colorado, after they were comfortably settled back in California, they heard a scratch at the door. They couldn’t imagine who might be there. It never occurred to them that it might be Sam, because they were sure he was happily set up with his new family back in Colorado. When they opened the door, the Greens saw a dirty, tired dog with very hurting feet. The animal looked a little bit like Sam, but no one could believe that Sam could have walked 840 miles on his own.
