It is well known that the Japanese people"s love of fish is almost as strong as a bee"s interest in honey. As fish populations were decreasing, fishing companies were forced to fish further and further away from the shore. Then they had a big challenge - how to keep the fish fresh for longer. So they decided to keep the fish stored in freezers on the boats. But the public did not like frozen fish. So again the fishing companies had a new bigger challenge. What they decided to do was to have fish tanks on their boats. After catching fishes, they would put them in the tanks and keep them living there until they got back to shore. But in this protected environment, lacking predators (掠食者), the fish stopped moving around. The Japanese public felt these dull fish did not taste fresh, which had an unpleasant effect upon sales. Once again the fishing companies had an even bigger challenge … Stop for a minute! Before we go any further, I would like to ask "What are your challenges? How do you handle an unexpected challenge? " May I think it this way that you should try to attack your challenges? Conquer them with a Swiss Army knife. Take the most proper and simple tool that you can adopt to deal with your situation. Now back to our story. How did the Japanese finally figure out the fresh fish problem? Sharks! You might think the same. Sharks were caught and put into the tanks with other fishes. Don"t sharks eat fish? Well, they do eat a few fish, but they did also keep more fish active and alert (警觉的). The fish stay fresh because they are challenged. Now, try to keep yourself fresh by finding your own shark to offer yourself a challenge in your own business and career. |

2.Which was the best way for the fishing company to keep fishes fresh? |
A.Getting the fishes frozen. B.Storing the fishes with salt. C.Putting the fishes in tanks. D.Keeping the fishes with sharks in tanks. |
3.The underlined part of the last paragraph means "_______." |
A.If you went fishing, you might do as the fishing companies did B.Try to find a big shark, and you will meet your challenge C.To succeed in life, you should always be ready to meet challenges D.Sharks are usually compared to the challenges in people"s life |
4.The purpose for the author to write the passage is to ________. |

The statement, "you can do anything you put your mind to," leads us to believe that all you must do is imagine what you"d like to accomplish, set your mind to the task, and wait for success. To a certain degree this is true.Focused intention combined with action is a powerful force. But the statement is misleading because it fails to mention the difficulty and necessity of focusing your mind on a special goal. Most of us don"t know what we want.We think we do, but we really don"t.we only know what we don"t want. We don"t want a boring job.We don"t want to be poor.We don"t want to disappoint our loved ones. Knowing specially what you want is much different from knowing what you don"t want. When you only know what you don"t, your intentions aren"t focused.Consider this example. Pete doesn"t want to be poor. He"s sick of earning less than his friends, and he"s determined to raise his position. To accomplish this goal, Pete could take many different paths. He could train for a high paying profession. He could start his own company, go into real estate, or do many other things that would lead to acquiring wealth. But Pete isn"t sure what he wants to do.He doesn"t know which path best fits his skills and personality, so he doesn"t make a decision to follow any particular path. Hoping to answer this question, he investigates a dozen possibilities, but as soon as he runs into adversity, he decides that path isn"t for him and moves on to a new solution. Pete"s actions aren"t focused.Although he works very hard, his efforts don"t build on each other rather than building one giant inaccessible sand castle, Pete has built twenty small ones that are easy to collapse. He ends up confused and discouraged. What"s worse, Pete"s lack of focus leads to failure. What if Pete had chosen a specific path? A set of specific goals is much easier to achieve than an unclear goal like becoming wealthy.Being focused on a path gives Pete a logical set of actions to follow. Each accomplishment is one step closer to thefinal goal. I think we can all agree that committing to a clearly defined path, regardless of which one, gives Pete the best chance of becoming wealthy. But how can he choose a path if he doesn"t know what he wants? Maybe money isn"t his only goal.Maybe he wants to do something he loves at the same time.Maybe he can"t afford to go back to school.Reality is complicated, and Pete doesn"t want to commit too soon. And that"s why he failed. |

Experiences in life teach us new lessons and make us a better person. With each passing day we learn to handle various situations. Love Love plays a pivotal role on out life. Love makes you feel wanted. Without love a person could go Hayward(不归路) and also become cruel and ferocious. In the early stage of our life, our parents are the ones who show us with unconditional love and care, they teach us about what is right and wrong, good and bad. Here it becomes very important to keep our head on our shoulder he only way to show our gratitude to God for bestowing success on us is by being humble, modest, courteous and respectful to the less fortunate ones. Hope and Despair Hope is what keeps life going. Parents always hope their children will do well. Hope makes us dream. Hope builds in patience. Life teaches us not to despair even in the darkest hour, because after every night there is a day. Nothing remains the same we have only one choice keep moving on in life and be hopeful. Life teaches us not to regret over yesterday, for it has passed and is beyond our control. Tomorrow is unknown, for it could either be bright or dull. It has been proved over and over again that patience is a virtue that not so many persons hold, it is also very true that in most cases haste (匆忙) ruins everything. It"s high time that you learnt to be patient as it is an important quality for those who want to get success. If you are always in a hurry and never think twice before taking a decision, then you risk losing important things and you are the one who suffers. One of the conditions to get a good job and also to keep it is the patience. If you make decisions without consulting (磋商) with someone else then there are two reasons: the first one: you are so well prepared in your field that you are always right and what you decide is the best and the second one: you don"t think carefully and you take everything for granted. As a result of that, and your image will be ruined. Hasty climbers often have sudden falls, especially when they are young and inexperienced. When you are young you feel that you know all. However, when you try to solve new situations you"ll realize you don"t know as much as you think you knew. Time helps you gain experience and improves your abilities. All it takes is a little more patience and more accepting others" advice. It takes time to learn to admit you may be wrong. Don"t rush into things and always think the consequences of your actions. |

A few years ago I had an "aha!" moment regarding handwriting. I had in my hand a sheet of paper with handwritten instructions on it for some sort of editorial task.It occurred at first that I did not recognize the handwriting, and then I realized whose it must be.I finally became aware of the fact that I had beenworking with this colleague for at least a year, maybe two,and yet I did not recognize her handwriting at that point. It was a very important event in the computerization of life-a sign that the informal.Friendly communication of people working together in an office had changed from notes in pen to instant messages and emails. There was a time when our workdays were filled with little letters, and we recognized one another"s handwriting the way we knew voices or faces. As a child visiting my father"s office,I was pleased to recognize,in little notes on the desks of his staff, the same handwriting I would see at home in the notes he would leave on the fridge-except that those notes were signed "dad" instead of "RFW". All this has been on my mind because of the talk about The Rise and Fall of Handwriting,a book by Florey.Sire shows in her book a deep concern about the fall of handwriting and the failure of schools to teach children to write well, but many others argue that people in a digital age can"t be expected to learn to hold a pen. I don"t buy it. I don"t want to see anyone cut off from the expressive, personal associations that a pen still promotes better than a digital keyboard does. For many a biographer, part of really getting to know their subjects is learning to read their handwriting. What some people advocate is teaching one of the many attractive handwritings based on the handwriting of 16th-century Italy. That may sound impossibly grand-as if they want kids to learn to draw by copying classical paintings. However, they have worked in many school systems. |

A.to both his family and his staff B.to his family in small letters C.to his family on the fridge D.to his staff on the desk |
4.According to the author,handwritten notes . |
A.are harder to teach in schools B.attract more attention C.are used only between friends D.carry more message |

A.thinks it impossible to teach handwriting B.does not want to lose handwriting C.puts the blame on the computer D.does not agree with Florey |

Life is difficult. It is a great truth because once we truly understand and accept it, then life is no longer difficult. Most do not fully see this truth. Instead they complain(抱怨) about their problems and difficulties as if life should be easy. It seems to them that difficulties stand for a special kind of suffering especially forced on them or else on their families, their class, or even their nation. What makes life difficult is that the process of facing and solving problems is a painful one. Problems, depending on their nature, cause sadness, or loneliness(孤独) or regret or anger or fear. These are uncomfortable feelings, often as painful as any kind of physical pain. And since life causes a lot of problems, life is always difficult and is full of pain as well as joy. Yet, it is in this whole process of solving problems that life has its meaning. Problems are the serious test that tells us success from failure. When we want to encourage the growth of human spirit, we encourage the human ability to solve problems, just as in school we set problems for our children to solve. It is through the pain of meeting and working out problems that we learn. As Benjamin Franklin said, "Those things that hurt, instruct(指导)." It is for this reason that wise people learn not to fear but to welcome the pain of problems. |
