     下面文章中有5处(第1~5题)需要添加小标题.请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中选出
符合各段意思的小标题,选项中有一项是多余选项。A. Arguments are pointless.
B. Your parents only want what"s best for you.
C. Everyone"s opinion matters only as much as you want them to.
D. You learn by doing.
E. Your emotions are under your control.
F. You aren"t stuck in any situation.
                                                    Life is the greatest teacher
There always comes a moment when I wonder where I will end up and this moment always serves as
a strong motivation for me to learn life lesson. I"ve learned a great many things, but these are the lessons
that I wish I"d learned earlier:
1. _________
There was a time when everyone"s opinion was mine as well. Whatever preferences I formerly held
were dashed in the face of another"s. This most likely came from a need to please others. Remember that
your opinion matters just as much as the next guy"s, whether they make more money than you or are less
popular than you. Everyone"s opinion holds the same weight.
2. _________
Drama, chaos, and emotional unrest - these were what took up most of my time as a teenager. If I
had heard someone said bad things behind my back, I"d be angry. Go crazy. Looking back on those
tantrums now, I"m not too surprised. After all, when you have little self control, anything is possible. The
lessons here is, remain aware of how you react.
3. _________
Will one small quarrel among friends decide the fate of the entire universe? In my world it felt like it. I
just wanted so much to be right and for them so much to be wrong. But in the end, it only resulted in me
wasting my time and in the other person storming off in frustration. Is there really a point to arguing?
Unless it"s absolutely necessary, I"ve learned that it"s better to hold your breath on things you can"t control
at all. Arguing to change someone"s mind is one of them.
4. _________
I"m not saying every parent wants what"s best for you (there are outliers), but in general, parents do
what they do for you in your best interest. My parents used to make me do the dishes, cook dinner,
sweep the floors, mow the lawn, take out the garbage…

阅读理解。     September can be a depressing month. The summer holidays are over, it"s time to go back to work or
school and Christmas is four months away. However, for some people it"s the perfect time to get away.
These days more and more people are taking their holidays late in the year and for good reasons.
Holidays in autumn can be cheaper, the resorts are less crowded and the weather isn"t as extreme as it is
in the summer. So, where are the best places to go? Here are our top tips.
Sardinia (in Italy) has an average temperature of 27℃ in September. It also has "Autunno in Barbagia" (Autumn in Barbagia) a series of festivals that take place in 27 villages in Barbagia, a mountainous
region of inland Sardinia. The festivals continue from September to December, so there"s always something happening. There are street markets, craft workshops and there"s lots of eating and drinking (This is Italy,
after all).
Dubrovnik Croatia has become very popular in summer but it"s quieter and more pleasant once the
crowds have left. The weather is still warm but less humid. You can take a ferry to the popular beaches
on the islands of Sunj and enjoy it with locals.
Dahab Egypt, is extremely hot in the summer with temperatures up to 38℃. However, the autumn is
cooler while the sea is still warm. This makes Dahab the perfect place for snorkeling and windsurfing.
There are also interesting historical sites to visit such as the Coloured Canyon, with its dramatic rock
formations, and St Catherine"s Monastery, at the foot of Mount Sinai.
Kas is a relaxed fishing village on the Lycian coast in southern Turkey. There are plenty of things to do and the temperature has dropped (so you can actually enjoy doing them!) Kas is a good place to stay if
you want to walk part of the Lycian way: a long-distance footpath that stretches for 500km from Fethiye
to  Antalya through the ancient land of Lycia. There are also watersports, of course. The best time to go
diving is supposed to be after the first rains of autumn (usually between late September and early October) when the fish become most active.
Marrakech Morocco is another good destination. The city itself is a fascinating place to spend a few
days. When you have had enough of that, go to Tigmi, a beautiful hill town about 20 kilometers away.
There"s a hammam (a Turkish bath) and a large heated pool, which makes it the perfect place to relax.
Wherever you go this autumn - have fun!1. Here are the good reasons for people to take holidays in autumn except that _______.A. Holidays in autumn can be cheaper
B. the scenery in autumn is more attractive
C. the resorts in autumn are less crowded
D. The weather is neither too hot nor too cold2. We can infer from Paragraph 3 that _________.A. visitors can take part in a series of festivals in October in Barbagia
B. Barbagia in Egypt is surrounded by mountains
C. the festivals continue from September to November
D. the temperature in Sardinia in September is always below 27℃3. For someone who enjoys walking, __________ is the best choice. A. Kas
B. Marrakech
C. Dahab
D. Dubrovnik4. Which of the following places may not be close to sea? A. Dubrovnik
B. Dahab
C. Kas
D. Marrakech

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I"d know better. I"d really like for them to know about hand-me-down clothes and home-made ice cream and leftover meatloaf. I really would.
My cherished boys, I hope you learn humility by surviving failure and that you learn to be honest even
when no one is looking. I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in. I hope you have
to share a bedroom with your younger brother. And it is all right to draw a line down the middle of the
room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he"s scared, I hope you"ll let him.
And when you want to see a Disney movie and your kid brother wants to tag along, I hope you take him.
I hope you have to walk uphill with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.
I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books, and when you learn to use computers, you also learn
how to add and subtract in your head.
May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on the stove and stick your tongue on a
frozen flagpole (旗杆). I hope you get sick when someone blows smoke in your face. I don"t care if you
try beer once, but I hope you won"t like it.
I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your grandpa or go fishing with your uncle.
I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through a neighbor"s window, and that
she hugs you and kisses you when you give her a plaster of pared mold of your hand.
These things I wish for you-tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness.

Saying "thank you" is probably the first thing most of us learn to do in a foreign language. After all,
we"re brought up to be polite, and it is important to make a good impression upon other people-especially across national divides.
So, what exactly are you supposed to say when "thank you" is only the 20th most popular way to
express gratitude? According to a recent survey, 19 other ways of expressing appreciation finished ahead of "thank you" in a poll of 3,000 people.
Pollsters(民测调查员) found almost half of those asked preferred the more informal "cheers", while
others liked to use such expressions as "ta", "great" and "nice one".
So, just what is the appropriate form of words to express your thanks?
Fortunately, the clue is in the language itself. "Cheers", despite its popularity, is considered an
informal way to say thank you - and this is a definite clue as to when you can best use it.
For instance, when going for a drink with friends, a smile and a "cheers" by way of thanks is not only
appropriate to the situation, it is also culturally accurate.
"Ta", originated from the Danish word "tak", was the second-most popular expression of thanks, and
is also commonly used in informal situations, along with phrases such as "nice one", and "brilliant".
Interestingly, one word that didn"t make it into the top 20 was "thanks", Thank you is shorter, more
informal cousin.
"Thanks" can be useful, as it is able to bridge the divide between the formality of "thank you" and the
downright relaxed "cheers".
Certain words can double as an expression of thanks as well as delight. Again, the words themselves
offer the clue as to when best to use them.
For example, words like "awesome", "brilliant" and "you star" featured highly in the new poll and they
can hint at both your pleasure at someone"s action, as well as serving to express your thanks. If you are
on the receiving end of a "new" thank you, you can respond with a simple "no problem", or "sure".
Of course, in certain circumstances, a simple wave, nod or smile may be appropriate. For instance, if
a car driver slows down to let you cross the road, simply raising your hand in acknowledgement is enough to show that you appreciate the driver"s consideration.
Sometimes, formality is necessary, and "thank you" is still the best choice in such situations. But students should not worry about when exactly to use certain expressions.
Many people in Western countries are worried that good manners are in decline. People are tired of
seeing their acts of kindness and service pass without comment. So don"t think your "thank you" is clumsy or awkwardly formal. The chances are, if you said "thank you", you made someone"s day. You star.

1.We can tell from the results of the poll that _______.
A. people are unconcerned about politeness nowadays.
B. "thank you" remains the best expression of gratitude.
C. there is a variety of expressions of appreciation.
D. there are more formal expressions than informal ones.
2. According to the passage, which is an appropriate response to "awesome" or "brilliant"?
A. Thanks.
B. Sure.
C. Nice one.
D. Cheers..
3. In the last paragraph the author encourages people to           .
A. show their gratitude to others.
B. behave themselves well.
C. continue their acts of kindness.
D. stop worrying about bad manners.
4. Which of the following can serve as the best title of this passage?
A. How to Appear More Polite.
B. Ways to Show Gratitude.
C. Never hesitate to Say "Thank You".
D. Good Manners in Decline!

1   Because, from what I could see, it seemed that grown-ups often forgot. I never wanted to
forget - I wanted to be able to remind other adults and myself when the time came. I began consciously
thinking this at quite an early age.
As soon as I was fully aware of myself, I regarded me as a little person and liked adults who thought
of and treated me the same way. I didn"t have a doll and I didn"t want one. I wanted animal toys, even a
single animal. Why wouldn"t my parents give me the one thing I wanted?   2
Instead, my dad somehow managed to buy me a full set of encyclopedia (百科全书) and books with maps and color pictures long before I could read. Well, guess what? I learned to read without realizing it! Later, I found out when I started school and it all came so easy especially geography.   3   Because of all
the books my father bought me, I knew a lot of words that other children didn"t know at my age.
I love words. They opened up new worlds for me.   4   Parents, please make sure your kids have a
computer. Let them explore-as safely as possible-let them do their own things and discover the world.
Now, most kids lead a happy life. They can get what they want from their parents. But children should
learn to be independent.   5   Be independent to do your own things.
A. Because of them, I read and thought, and today, I write.
B. When I was a child, I promised myself to try to remember as much as I could.
C. I listened and heard everything, even if I didn"t understand everything.
D. I nearly knew every place on the map like the teacher.
E. But more than anything, it made me feel uncomfortable and I knew it wasn"t nice.
F. Later, I knew we didn"t have much money, but how expensive could a toy be?
G. Be independent to learn some useful knowledge.
